Oscar De La Hoya is certainly on cloud nine. Just when the heat over Ryan Garcia‘s controversies seemed a bit overwhelming, came the soothing breeze carrying on the carpet, the ‘Camaron’. The 27-year-old William Zepeda delivered as promised, securing yet another win in the style he knows is the best. So let’s not lose the momentum. The ‘Golden Boy’ promotions still have a few big names to offer fans some exciting boxing.
Though he suffered his first professional loss to a face of boxing, there’s no denying that Jaime Munguia gave his heart and soul in the fight. It’s been over two months since the Cinco de Mayo feature. For the tough man that he is, he should be back in the gym, training hard for the next outing. On the other hand, despite being one of the best pure boxers around, Caleb Plant has been finding it hard to latch on to a fight after last year’s loss to David Benavidez. So why not get the two super middleweights for a dance of eternity?

It seems like the idea has caught the Olympic gold medalist and former champion’s fancy. That’s why he wasted no time and referred it to fans and followers. “What do you think about @jaimemunguia15 vs. @SweetHandsPlant?” From the reactions, it appears that he might have hit a jackpot, as most found it a sensible move to follow.

From “I like it” to “Make it happen fast,” one of the fans wrote, “You know me, I was looking forward to seeing if that fight happens. LMK.” After that outstanding win over John Ryder, it appeared that the Tijuana-born fighter has those hands that would finally ask some questions to the Mexican icon’s unbridled hegemony.
But despite his chin, Munguia couldn’t breach the Fort Alvarez. The fight saw him going down to the canvas for the first time in his career. Along with Vergil Ortiz Jr., in the middleweights, he remains one of the most potent weapons from the Golden Boy stable. Caleb Plant, on the other hand, has been on the wrong side of luck, it seems.

The Ashland City-born former IBF supermiddleweight champion turned 32 yesterday. He has been trying hard to get a fight for himself. March 25 last year saw him suffering his second career loss during the grudge match against David Benavidez.
“Sweethands’ still away from the sweet taste of victory
Following the defeat, his name made it to headlines on account of the ‘slapgate’ controversy with Jermall Charlo. Thus, rumors unfolded of a potential matchup between the two. But as months followed, the ‘Hitman’ eventually went ahead with a comeback fight against Jose Benavidez Jr. Thereafter, not much has been on the news of any fight talks emerging between Plant and the Charlo team.
So it was over to Edgar Berlanga. The Brooklyn-born unbeaten boxer of Puerto Rican heritage found himself elevated as Canelo Alvarez’s mandatory challenger. As it happened, both Plant and Berlanga exchanged heated words at the Alvarez-Munguia weigh-in.

Subsequently, a Twitter erupted between the two. The Tennessean accused the Brooklynite of acting out a ‘matchmaker’. Thus alleging that the latter might be avoiding a possible fight so that he could have direct access to Canelo Alvarez.
You a match maker now? You don’t need to sign me up for ANY other fights unless it’s a fight with YOU. What kind of lame shit is this? the more you talk the more of a pussy you make urself out to be. You keep talking about ppl I’ve fought or should fight but not that you’ll fight https://t.co/tNkuxcjc5W

In a strict sense, the match between Jaime Munguia and Caleb Plant might prove beneficial to both. A win would make an argument to secure a rematch with Canelo Alvarez stronger. Chances of either of them getting that big payday appearing remote for the time being. So a fight comes across as the best solution. Stylistically as well, it would be a heavy-hitter going against an out boxer, making for an appealing sight to diehard fans.
