48-year-old Oscar De La Hoya is still pressing for a re-match against Floyd Mayweather, which he believes can shake several PPV records at the Box Office. The original clash in 2007 was massively successful and is still one of the best-selling fights in the sport’s history.
Despite losing to Floyd Mayweather, De La Hoya delivered his A-listed features to the display and earned legitimate appraisal. He could rock the undefeated rival several times, making it seem like a bout in his favor. However, Mayweather could find ways to have his hands raised via decision. Following the outcome, De La Hoya appeared in two more fights and hung his gloves in 2008 after losing to Manny Pacquiao.

On the contrary, Floyd Mayweather remained active for the next 10 years and retired from pro-boxing in 2017 after knocking out Conor McGregor. That said, De La Hoya now wants to have a piece of his former nemesis, that too, under a professional setting.
In an exclusive chat with DAZN, ‘The Golden Boy’ said, “This would be probably the biggest fight out there for him. I believe it would be bigger than him fighting McGregor. It would be bigger than him fighting Logan Paul or whoever he’s bound to fight next. I think that people want to see real fights.”

Nevertheless, Mayweather hasn’t responded to the offer. He is still cherishing his retired life, but on receiving a proper price, we can expect the rematch to happen.
Oscar De La Hoya wants to have a piece of the best
A four-division world champion, De La Hoya announced his in-ring return last year and claimed to match himself against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort. However, he walked away from the scheduled fight after contracting Covid-19. It allowed Evander Holyfield to slide in, which didn’t work in his favor. Belfort knocked out ‘The Real Deal’ in round one and looked invincible.
While De La Hoya appears to have revived from the medical setbacks, he can now explore his in-ring chances. Henceforth, De La Hoya has pitched Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao as two of his desired opponents. The first fight against Mayweather had spun 2.4 million PPV sales, which is the fourth-highest in Mayweather’s career. Relying on that, De La Hoya believes they can generate even more in the era of digital evolution.

Well, several reports cite Mayweather to be returning in action against the YouTuber, ‘Money Kicks’ in Abu Dhabi. It seems Mayweather is totally done facing professional elites. And if that is the case, then it’s hard to picture him accepting De La Hoya’s offer.
