Oscar De La Hoya – in hot pursuit!
Oscar De La Hoya stated how he longed to see one true new-age legend. Perhaps someone on the lines of Muhammad Ali or ‘Sugar’ Ray Robinson? Almost every boxer he comes across appears so engrossed in it that it seems they know every nook and cranny of the boxing business. Then, most of the time, they are hard at work on finding out how much some other boxer is making from a deal.

“I dream and I wish this generation can produce just one legend, everyone is so occupied on thinking they know the business and [preoccupied] on how much the other fighter is making.” Said De La Hoya
It would not be the first time, though; Oscar De La Hoya is pouring his heart out. Last year, in September, he shared his two bits on what boxers, especially those at the top of the chain, should be doing. He advised them to fight more than two times a year. But De La Hoya cautioned them that, at the same time, their opportunities for making a good payday are limited. Hence, they should always be prepared.
“Any fighter reading this tweet. If you are on top and are a champion, fight more than 2 times a year. Your window to become a legend or make money is closing by the day. Stay in the gym and be ready; don’t train to get ready. Boxing is your life, so make it your life.” Said De La Hoya.

The year began with the setback of the much-vaunted Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney fight caving in. However, De La Hoya is now looking forward to the exciting middleweight clash between Jaime Munguia and John Ryder. Also, last week saw the successful return of welterweight prodigy Vergil Ortiz Jr. Thus, amidst challenges and opportunities, Oscar De La Hoya and his team at Golden Boy Promotions are striving to make 2024 as exciting as the year that just passed.
