Did Oscar De La Hoya really need fake abs to stay relevant in the boxing world?

Does Oscar De La Hoya have fake abs? The controversy started gaining steam last year when he posted pictures of himself showing off his perfectly shaped six-pack in his heartfelt post to celebrate his girlfriend Holly Sonders‘ birthday. But the netizens stood firm in their position that De La Hoya had surgery done to have abs like that. After all, Oscar De La Hoya is now 51 years old, and it has been fifteen years since he retired from professional boxing. Some fans thought that it was almost impossible to have a chiseled physique at his current age.

Many fans also pointed out that the definition of his abs did not match the development of his muscles in other parts of his body, conjecturing that medical assistance might have been taken. But what is the truth here? Did Oscar De La Hoy have abdominal implants? Without further delay, let’s delve into how much truth there is in the audience’s assertions about the Olympic gold medalist’s abs.

Well, what’s the secret formula to De La Hoya’s epic body transformation? Is it an intense training regimen combined with a strict and nutritious diet? Turns out, the fans weren’t entirely wrong. In an interview with MMA Hour, the boxer-turned-promoter came clean on his stunning abdominals. “They are real. They are my abs. What I did was I got a little bit of help from a doctor,” Oscar told Ariel Helwani. Revealing the trick behind his shredded physique, De La Hoya stated that he underwent “lipo-sculpting” which “sucks up” the fat between the abs so that they “pop” out.

“I’ve always had abs. I’ve worked out every day, so my body fat is low. But when you do the sculpting of the abs, they pop out like there’s no tomorrow,” De La Hoya told Helwani. However, De La Hoya remained adamant that his abs were not “fake”. Suffice to say, he didn’t have implants either. It was just a simple medical procedure to make his abs more well-defined. Furthermore, he explained that he would always have abs even if he gained weight following the medical procedure.

“I can gain 200lbs and I’ll still have my abs because once that fat is removed, it cannot grow back in that particular area. It’s going to grow somewhere else, behind my f***ing shoulder or something,” De La Hoya revealed.

Talking to Shannon Sharpe on his podcast, Club Shay Shay, about his ‘AI’ abs, De La Hoya stated, “My abs are already there, so they just etch them in between so they pop out more, and that’s all it is. Now it’s up to me to keep these abs because I must work out and eat right. But they are mine, and it’s real.”

Elaborating on the reason behind getting the surgical procedure, Oscar De La Hoya confessed, “I want to look good and feel good. I have my partner, Holly, who is probably the most beautiful, sex***t woman alive ever, and I have to keep up. But I want to look good for her.”

De La Hoya credited his desire to have a chiseled physique to his wife, Holly Sonders. The retired boxer stated that Sonders motivates him every day to train, who otherwise would have remained lazy and led a hedonistic lifestyle. “I have to admit when I met her, I said I was not going to train anymore. I am going to be lazy and enjoy all of my money. But guess what? She motivates me every single day,” he admitted.

Encouraged by his wife, De La Hoya hits the gym regularly and tries to keep in shape despite having a hectic schedule heading his promotional company, Golden Boy Promotions, and other professional commitments. Safe to say, the criticism from fans does not bother the Olympic gold medalist who is thick-skinned, and rich enough to do whatever he wants.
