2024 has not been kind to Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing, as injuries and losses have plagued their fighters. Only this past month has seen 3 of their major stars (Anthony Joshua, Edgar Berlanga, and Sandy Ryan) suffer terrible defeats. So when Thursdays rolled back around, Oscar De La Hoya seized the opportunity to roast his rival promoter.
Recently, after being attacked by De La Hoya during his last week’s Clapback Thursdays, Eddie Hearn decided to respond in kind. During a conversation with Boxing Social, Hearn said, “When Oscar says I haven’t built anything, or I haven’t got any fighters … Shakur Stevenson, Jaron Ennis, and Bam Rodriguez. That’s three of my US fighters right there. Canelo left him a long time ago. Ryan Garcia, God knows how that’s going to play out. Jaime Munguia has left Oscar De La Hoya, gone to Top Rank. Tell me one fighter that is a star that they have.” So naturally when Thursday arrived, you knew Oscar De La Hoya would hit the ball right back. However, he decided to take the help of a surprise guest.

The Golden Boy struck back in the clip and called Hearn “the biggest pathological liar on the planet” as he is still trying to convince everyone that he is “good at his job.” He further mentioned the infamous ‘Matchroom Curse’ is real and how “14 of your(Hearn) main event fighters lost this year.” De La Hoya further stated, “You always bring up that Canelo hates me. We hate each other. I promoted him for ten years and built him from scratch in the US. Canelo was with you for eight fights and dumped you because you’re incompetent and incapable of doing your job. Your record proves that.”

He then proceeded to show all 14 fighters of Matchroom Boxing who lost in 2024, including Sandy Ryan, Edgar Berlanga, Terri Harper, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder and others and called Matchroom Boxing a train wreck, while adding, “Matchroom curse is a real thing”.
After the scathing attack, the Barcelona Olympics gold medalist had a special surprise for Hearn at the end. As he acknowledged the latter’s claims of having no stars, he brought out the one star he still had—Ryan Garcia. The clip had a cut after which, King Ry entered the screen, gave Hearn the finger, and declared, “F**k you.”

Holly Sonders, Oscar De La Hoya’s girlfriend, loved the cameo of Ryan Garcia in the video as she wrote: “Ryan at the end 😂😂.” She loved the fact that Garcia himself was quite awkward during the video and how he couldn’t control his laughter before the cut.
Another Golden Boy Promotions boxer, John “Scrappy” Ramirez, agreed with La Hoya as he wrote, “Damn nothing but facts 💯.” It is a fact that Ramirez has not fought any Matchroom boxer till now, but the way his career trajectory is going in super flyweight, we can see that clash soon.
Former UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal was impressed by the episode as he wrote, “Damnn The Heat Came Out,” stating how De La Hoya did not hold back at all. Golden Boy Promotions and Masvidal’s Gamebred Promotions have been in talks for a partnership and the latter has received a lot of support from De La Hoya in his boxing ventures.
