Oscar De La Hoya is one of the greatest boxers of his generation. The American won eleven world titles across six weight classes. After a successful career, ‘Golden Boy’ started his promotional company and became one of the biggest promoters in the world.

Despite all this success, the desire to box has pushed De La Hoya to return to the sport. The former champion announced he was training for a comeback at the back end of 2020. And now, he finally has a date for his comeback fight.

De La Hoya broke the news at the Jake Paul-Ben Askren press conference, and Marc Raimondi from ESPN was the first to reveal the details. He claimed Triller CEO Ryan Kavanaugh is good friends with De La Hoya, and the pair are working towards a return for the champion on July 3.

Moreover, he reported that they are looking for a ‘Big’ UFC name for the former champion’s comeback. Raimondi also revealed that the possible venue for the bout would be the famous AT&T Stadium in Texas (home of the Dallas Cowboys). He also included that De La Hoya has a multi-fight deal with Triller, and thus, it would not be a one-off bout for the former champion.

Twitter reacts to the return of Oscar De La Hoya

The news was not as surprising since it was no secret that De La Hoya wanted to make a comeback. However, many big names, including the likes of Manny Pacquiao, took to Twitter to react to the news.

Pacquiao simply posted a video of their bout in which the Filipino retired the former champion with a vicious knockout.  

De La Hoya got his first volunteer as an opponent, with UFC featherweight Cub Swanson offering to fight him.

Reporters and Journalists also had a field day and reacted to the announcement from De La Hoya.
