Canelo Alvarez and John Ryder gave a well-awaited fight to more than 50,000 Mexicans. And, even though Alvarez walked out of the ring retaining his championship titles, his performance against the Brit caused a stir among fans. Despite his win, many fans were expecting a more thrilling performance from one of the best pound-for-pound boxers, and it is safe to say that many in the boxing world were disappointed by his performance. The fight had to the instilling of the idea that Alvarez is towards the end of his career. And that age is finally getting to him.

In a recent interview, Oscar De La Hoya opened up about his thoughts on Canelo Alvarez’s performance against John Ryder. And, like many others, he was not impressed by the Mexican’s performance. But it seems like Ryder made an impression on him.

Oscar De La Hoya believes Alvarez is on the “decline”

In an interview with ESNews, the promoter did not hold back when asked about his opinion of Canelo Alvarez and John Ryder. He said, “He’s definitely on the decline.” He further noted Ryder’s performance and believes that the Brit is a tough and very durable fighter.

Except for the praise, Oscar added that he couldn’t stop imagining Jaime Munguia knocking out John Ryder in a boxing fight. When sharing his expectations about the fight, he said, “Canelo had Ryder hurt. He should’ve gone after him and given the fans a spectacular showing.” But, the 50-year-old further claimed that he is “slowing down,” and that happens to all the fighters in the sport.

It is safe to say that Oscar De La Hoya’s thoughts are not much different from every fan’s at the moment. And the fans are eager to know who the ‘Cinnamon’ is planning on fighting next. And, despite the result of the fight, the PPV numbers for the same have caught the attention of many.

Oscar De La Hoya’s advice to Canelo Alvarez

Oscar De La Hoya made it known that he considers Alvarez to be towards the end of his career. And he had a piece of advice for the reigning undisputed champion. He said, “Canelo’s last fights of his career, he should be thinking about his legacy and securing his legacy.”

He further added, “If you’re gonna fight a John Ryder and train as hard for him and wear and tear your body so might as well go against Bivol might as well go against Benavidez .” Nevertheless, the fans will wait for the Mexican to make his next fight announcement.
