Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia concluded on April 20, yet the saga continues to this day. Adding another controversy to their event, both fighters openly ventured out their complaints of non-payment of their PPV shares from Golden Boy Promotions. As expected, it didn’t sit well with Oscar De La Hoya.

Garcia, 25, turned to his X handle and asked, “Still no payment, GBP and DAZN?” Haney, 25, also replied to his fierce rival’s demand and responded with “Same.” It didn’t take long before GBP’s lynchpin put on an Instagram story, sharing the official statement of GBP. De La Hoya stressed that the promotion had already dispensed with its duty of paying both boxers their contractual money. But, as with PPV shares, the revenue comes over a while and is then distributed accordingly.

The American promoter then sternly suggested that if not both boxers, then their managers would have been aware of it. And then he imparted advice to both ‘The Dream’ and ‘KingRy’. He said, “If they aren’t aware of this fact, we would hope that their managers are. Or perhaps Ryan and Devin should pay more attention to their contracts than their social media feeds.”

However, this is not the first time that De La Hoya has come under scrutiny for non-payment to fighters. When he promoted Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia, the super middleweight champion relentlessly pressed for their contractual disputes and payment differences from the past. Bill Haney has also highlighted similar issues in working with GBP. Demanding answers from BGP and accusing it of being non-transparent, he told BoxingScene, “Ryan and Devin have been asking where the pay-per-view money is… We haven’t received any pay-per-view money, per the agreement.”

Haney, at 31-1, and Garcia, at 25-1, have other pressing issues to tend to as they wait for their payouts. While Haney has his mandatory challenge looming large, Garcia has an uphill legal battle.

Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia have bigger concerns than payouts

Haney will most probably face his WBC mandatory, Sandor Martin, next. The WBC has ordered the fight, and the two fight camps are currently underway in negotiations. The WBC champion took a knee three times in his fight with Garcia and might have to add more weapons to his arsenal to make his title defense. Meanwhile, Martin, 30, knows that the champion is beatable and would like to replicate what Garcia did.

Garcia, on the other hand, tries to escape a lengthy ban from the New York State Athletic Commission. He tested positive for Ostarine on two occasions around his fight with Haney and failed to come clean with his B-samples. The Victorville native’s legal team has now taken the supplement contamination route for a lesser punishment. It remains to be seen whether the NYSAC will take away his win over Haney or not.
