Ryan Garcia stole the spotlight for himself at the Gervonta Davis vs. Frank Martin fight when he went up to the ring and shook hands with ‘Tank’ while wearing a t-shirt that read “rematch me, b***h.” While it is true that Garcia has been itching to avenge his sole loss against ‘Tank’ Davis, the latter believes he can defeat ‘KingRy’ for a second time as well. At this, after Davis’ 8th-round KO victory over Martin, Oscar De La Hoya delivered a crucial update on the rematch, encouraging ‘Tank’ to ring his promoter.

After his win over Devin Haney in April, Garcia declared that his body could not literally perform below 143 lbs. On that note, promoter Oscar De La Hoya announced the only way ‘KingRy’ would rematch Davis was at a catchweight. “At 143 or 144,” De La Hoya said. Additionally, to add weight to his statement, the ‘Golden Boy’ labeled Ryan as “great for boxing.” ‘The Flash’ has remained hellbent on a rematch against the Baltimorean hard hitter ever since their 2023 clash. In fact, Garcia had called out ‘Tank’ right after the Devin Haney upset and said, “Come see me at 144 and let stop the talk.”

Since Davis fights at 135 lbs, no one knows for sure if he would agree to face Garcia at 144 or 145 lbs. On that note, given Garcia’s latest interaction with Davis at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, De La Hoya was asked if the rematch was taking place. “Look, Ryan Garcia told me he can’t make 140,” answered Oscar De La Hoya casually.

So, he would want the fight at 143-144. So, yeah [if] anybody wants to fight him, call me. At 144, we’ll make the fight happen,” ‘Golden’ Boy assured. “But, I have to sit down with Ryan, I have to sit down with his team, and then figure out a plan. And then we go from there,” he added.

Along these lines, the American Boxing promoter praised Ryan Garcia’s promotional methods saying the sport needed more boxers like ‘KingRy’.

While Ryan Garcia made it obvious that he wants to rematch Gervonta Davis, the boxer from California has been calling out several other names. Recently, he started a banter with Caleb Plant which led to a scuffle at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Additionally, he called out Isaac Cruz, Sean O’Malley, Errol Spence Jr. and Sebastian Fundora, who also happens to be Terence Crawford’s mandatory challenger.

In that connection, De La Hoya said, “He’s mentioning Pitbull, he’s mentioning ‘Tank,’ he’s mentioning O’Malley, Errol Spence, he’s mentioning everybody. But, that’s the beauty about Ryan.”

Now, we have to believe him. We can’t be scratching our heads anymore with Ryan anymore saying, ‘Is he going to get in the ring? Is he going to fight? Is he ready?’ No. Ryan is the perfect marketer for himself. We need more Ryan Garcias,” De La Hoya concluded.

‘The Golden Boy’ and Ryan Garcia have had a bittersweet relationship but that has become a trend with most promoters and their fighters these days. With that said, do you think ‘Tank’ will fight Garcia at 145 lbs? Also, do you think the sport needs more Ryans? Let us know in the comments down below.
