Serious concerns have been raised about the well-being of Ryan Garcia. However, in his defense, and to clarify some things to his fans, his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, has provided an important update.

Ever since Garcia’s fight against Devin Haney was announced, things were not easy for the super lightweight. Many believed that the pressure of his upcoming fight with Haney was getting to Garcia. His social media posts too attested to that assumption. From posts on satanism to cryptic videos insinuating dangers to his life, concerns regarding his mental health have been surging for the past few weeks. Amid these circumstances, one question echoes aloud: Is Ryan Garcia okay?

“That’s his style”

While clearing the air on the 25-year-old’s well-being, the former six-division champion also provided an update on how well ‘KingRy’ has been training for the 20th April fight against Haney. To Fight Hub TV, De La Hoya explained, “Look, that’s his style, that’s his way. I don’t talk to him every single day, but from what I’ve seen, when he’s in the gym, he’s looking sharp, he’s looking ready, he’s looking fit.”

“And look, I’ll never forget the time he told me, ‘Look, I’m going to do the biggest troll in the world’. I don’t really know what that means but I guess he did it. I guess he’s doing it,” he said, providing a seemingly plausible reason for KingRy’s recent shenanigans. He further noted that his job was to promote the upcoming Brooklyn fight to the best of his capabilities, slowly distancing himself from Garcia’s ongoing antics. Is the promoter trying to play it safe, given his earlier feud with the fighter? Or is he only concerned about how well the fight goes for Garcia?

The ‘Golden Boy’ elaborated, “Look all I do is promote the fight and make sure that April 20th is successful for everybody, but I can assure you that Ryan Garcia will be ready, even more so than his other fights. There’s no rehydration clause, you got to think about that, no rehydration clause. Imagine that? Yeah, he’ll be in tiptop shape.”

While the promoter is not overly concerned about the controversies Ryan Garcia has managed to get himself into, he also rests assured that his fighter will be the best man in the ring on April 20. A glimpse of this confidence emerged in what he advised the Californian native.

Oscar De La Hoya gives key advice to Ryan Garcia

The fighter-promoter duo might not see eye-to-eye on all things in this business, but one thing that binds them together is their tenacity to win the April 20 entertainer. To ensure that happens, in the interview, he explained what he has advised Ryan Garcia to do.

“‘Just be ready. Go out there and be ready. You have the talents in the world, you have what it takes to become great. Go out there on April 20 and take care of business’. And he goes, ‘imma knock him out’. Alright. When he told me, I believed him,” revealed De La Hoya.
