Rolando “Rolly” Romero took some major beating at the hands of Isaac Cruz. While the fighter licks his wounds and plans his next move to emerge from the scathing loss, promoter Oscar De La Hoya decided to rub it in his face, citing the drama that ensued between them.

It all started when Ryan Garcia decided to go with ‘Rolly’ as his opponent over Devin Haney, whom the promoter personally vouched for. However, as per ‘Golden Boy’ Rolly Romero cashed himself out of the fight. Later on, still salty from the entire fiasco, the promoter was seen imitating the fighter’s boxing style in a video. In response, the 28-year-old fighter clapped back similarly while insinuating that the promoter was hooked on drugs. Now, Oscar De La Hoya has taken the last shot in this back-and-forth.

On his Twitter, the former professional boxer seemed chippy about the loss Rolly encountered. In a video uploaded on his feed, he remarked, “Rollies you dumba**, getting knocked out. Focus on your opponent instead of focusing on me. Goddamit. All other fighters, learn from Rollies. Don’t talk shit about promoters. There’s only three of us in the world.”

This was not the first attack the 51-year-old promoter launched at the Las Vegas-based fighter. Post the fight, he and Bernard Hopkins had a similar reaction that nudged the CEO of Mayweather Promotions to also chime in.

Leonard Ellerbe Defends Rolando Romero

In a video on X, that seemed to be taken at the venue of the fight Romero-Cruz fight, the business partners, De La Hoya and Hopkins could not contain their laughter. In captions, he wrote, “Chihuahua [laughing emoji] beat you.”

In response, Ellerbe, under whose promotions Rolly fights, came immediately to his defense. He clapped back at the promoter, saying, “Wow, Rolly is ok but what if he wasn’t and something tragic happened? Classless behavior from two HOF fighters and promoters especially immediately after a fight IMO. Props again to Isaac Cruz and his team on a terrific performance.”

In the ring, it was not an easy night for Rolly. He was dropped by a right hook in the first round. While he recuperated from that blow, he hardly managed to inflict any damage on the ‘Pitbull’. As he tried to make his way back against the lethal opponent, in the 8th round, he found himself knocked out, losing the fight via TKO. In the end, he lost his first defense of the WBA Super Lightweight belt he bagged a year ago.
