Oscar De La Hoya continues to be a headache for Canelo Alvarez even hours before Saul steps inside the ring against Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas. Well, at the final press conference of Munguia vs. Canelo, after the undisputed Super-Middleweight champion verbally insulted the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, De La Hoya hoped he could distract Saul by certain means.

But, how did De La Hoya wish to accomplish this? For the 51-year-old, if Alvarez is somehow more focused on his former promoter than his opponent, the job is done! On that note, after sending the 33-year-old a cease-and-desist letter over defamation, De La Hoya decided to remind Alvarez of the time he tested positive for clenbuterol.

Ahead of Canelo Alvarez’s rematch against Gennady Golovkin, the former failed his VADA test as his urine sample contained clenbuterol which Saul claimed was due to meat contamination. Back then since Canelo was still with Golden Boy Promotions, Oscar De La Hoya also defended Saul saying the boxer was a victim of “meat contamination that has impacted dozens of athletes in Mexico“. But now that Munguia must defeat Alvarez, De La Hoya trolled Canelo.

At the weigh-in of Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia, Oscar De La Hoya roamed around wearing a t-shirt that read “EAT MORE MEAT”. Later, the 51-year-old even took to X and posted a photo of himself in the shirt. “Who loves MEAT? @Canelo,” he wrote jabbing at Canelo’s failed VADA test in 2018.

While Canelo Alvarez remained silent, De La Hoya went on to publicly claim that Alvarez’s boxing career “plateaued” after the boxer left his promotional company.

It is well known that it is hard to defeat a boxer who possesses a calm mind and stays composed. Therefore, Oscar De La Hoya understands that he needs to unsettle Alvarez in order to give his boxer Jaime Munguia an advantage. For the same, although Canelo Alvarez is only 33, De La Hoya told the media that Saul had slowly been declining. To add to this, he boldly stated that Munguia could very well upset Canelo the way a young De La Hoya once dethroned Julio Cesar Chavez.

Undoubtedly, De La Hoya wants Canelo to lose his composure. For the same reason, after their altercation at the final press conference of Munguia vs. Canelo, De La Hoya barely waited to send Saul a legal notice citing the legal implications of the boxer’s allegations. In doing so, to get into Alvarez’s head, through the mentioned letter, Oscar bemoaned the fact that Canelo was “disappointed that his career plateaued since he left Golden Boy“. With that said, do you think with his remarks, De La Hoya could distract Canelo sufficiently? Let us know in the comments below!
