Right after his victory against Oscar Duarte on December 2nd last year, Ryan Garcia, willing to become a world champion soon, called out Rolando Romero, the current WBA Super-Lightweight title holder in the sport. However, after Devin Haney squared off against Regis Prograis on December 9th and won the battle, ‘KingRy’ took to X and declared he would beat ‘The Dream’.
Anyway, after training with Floyd Mayweather following the Duarte fight, Garcia publicly declared that he had again changed his plans and wanted to focus on ‘Rolly’ instead of Haney. However, as per the latest post by Oscar De La Hoya, ‘KingRy’ is close to fighting an opponent who is neither Haney nor ‘Rolly’.

Following Floyd Mayweather’s “mentoring” when Ryan Garcia took to social media and declared he would certainly face ‘Rolly’, Oscar De La Hoya abused Mayweather for diverting Garcia’s attention from ‘The Dream’. “If you are still a promoter like it says here, f**k off,” De La Hoya told ‘TBE’.

Undoubtedly, as per De La Hoya’s message, it seemed he strongly wanted to pursue Garcia vs. Haney. However, contrary to his earlier announcements, today, the CEO of Golden Boy Promotions took to X and informed the boxing world that Garcia was likely to be matched up against Jose Ramirez.
“Looking like @RyanGarcia vs Jose Ramirez is getting close and happening,” Oscar De La Hoya said. In this context, it must be mentioned that Golden Boy Promotions recently signed Jose Ramirez aka ‘Jaguar’. As of now, Ramirez, a former unified Super-Lightweight champion, has a record of only 1 loss and 28 wins. And it also needs to be mentioned that his only defeat was against Josh Taylor in 2021 with the Undisputed Super-Lightweight title on the line.

It was only in this January that Golden Boy signed Ramirez. Speaking to the media, Oscar De La Hoya expressed how pleased he was with Jose. “An Olympic pedigree. An incredible resumé that features two world titles. A massive and loyal fan base — José Ramirez has it all. And we are thrilled to welcome him to the Golden Boy family.”
Additionally, the 50-year-old announced that they wanted to assign Ramirez a fight as early as possible. In this context, the promoter stated that they desired to see Ramirez only against the best.

“Our plan for Ramirez is simple: get him back in the ring quickly, keep him active against the best of the best, and show the world that he is still among the cream of the crop in the super lightweight division,” Oscar De La Hoya added. Naturally, boxing fans expected that Ramirez and Garcia would potentially fight in the future. However, none expected a fight between the duo this soon. Well, what do you make of the match-up?
