As you can expect, there has been a lot of talk surrounding the youngster’s next move following his victory. His promoter De La Hoya has now given an insight into where they stand when it comes to Ryan Garcia’s future.

Michael Benson from TalkSPORT reported it on Twitter. He wrote, “Oscar De La Hoya: Ryan is ready to face anybody, that’s never a doubt, but it’s gonna be on our terms, on the terms of Ryan Garcia. It doesn’t mean business, no – when he’s ready, when he wants to.”

Benson also included what many will see as a bold claim from the promoter. “Every champion out there needs Ryan Garcia, it’s not the other way around,” claimed Benson.

It was a big statement as ‘KingRy’ is an interim champion and has never held a top-tier regular championship.

Why does Oscar De La Hoya think all fighters need Ryan Garcia?

Boxing is a lucrative sport with a lot of opportunities for earning. Ryan Garcia is a highly marketable asset, even without the world title. This is a result of his charisma and character out of the ring. So when you put the two together, you have an opportunity to host a huge fight whenever Garcia is on the card.

The perfect example of this is his last fight. Luke Campbell is a fairly subdued fighter and rarely gets into any altercations. However, because Ryan Garcia was the opponent, the pair naturally got involved in a war of words.
