Oscar De La Hoya, former world champion in six different weight classes, is not ready to hang up the gloves just yet. In his pursuit to challenge himself further, the boxing legend has now signed up to face another dominant world champion. Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort (26-14) will meet Oscar De La Hoya (39-6-0) inside the boxing ring on September 11.

Ahead of his fight on September 11, Oscar De La Hoya commented on new-age boxing sensations like Logan Paul and Jake Paul fighting boxing legends like Floyd Mayweather. At the Belfort-Hoya press conference, ‘The Golden Boy’ suggested that the Paul brothers should stop fighting legends of the sport and even called their movement in the boxing community a “circus”. He then explained why he insisted on doing a sanctioned fight over just putting up another exhibition with no results like the Mayweather-Paul fight.

Jake Paul or Logan Paul or if there’s other YouTubers, if they wanna get in the ring, just don’t let it be with legends. It’s like maybe you’re not ready for that yet, you know. It becomes a circus, you know. It becomes not real and obviously, I want no part of that.

That’s one of the reasons why I wanted this fight to be a real sanctioned fight because everybody who knows me, I’ve never been in a boring fight whatsoever. I go out there and fight, you know. I leave it all on the line.

The Mayweather-Logan Paul fight, unfortunately, it didn’t turn out the way they wanted it to turn out. But that’s not us, we have too much at stake, said Oscar De La Hoya.

Can Vitor Belfort prove himself against Oscar De La Hoya?

During his professional boxing career, ‘The Golden Boy’ secured 39 wins and incurred 6 losses. He won eleven world titles in six distinct weight divisions and lineal championships in three separate classes. Oscar De La Hoya also bagged a gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.

Vitor Belfort is a middleweight contender and a former UFC light-heavyweight champion. While he is best known for his dominant mixed martial arts performance, this is not Belfort’s first professional boxing bout. Back in the initial stages of his career, ‘The Phenom’ knocked out Josemario Neves in his pro boxing debut in 2006.

Coming into this fight, Vitor Belfort is the underdog because of his lack of experience inside the boxing ring. However, Belfort recently shared that while he is not a traditional boxer like Floyd Mayweather, he is a seasoned knockout artist. He added he is also a boxer but that his ability to drop people is more dangerous than his traditional boxing approaches.

I’m the most devastating knockout artist in the history of MMA. I’m not just a boxer – I’m a knockout artist. These are two different things. Mayweather is a boxer, he’s not a knockout artist. In boxing, you have the boxers and the knockout artists, which one is more dangerous? But besides that, I’m also a boxer, said Vitor Belfort.
