The Mexican boxing icon, Canelo Alvarez, is one of the most iconic boxers of his generation. However, the iconic American-Mexican boxer and Alvarez’s former promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, takes a shot at the four-division champion on his Instagram.
De La Hoya posted a story on his Instagram dissing Alvarez ahead of his light heavyweight title fight against Dmitry Bivol on May 7, 2022, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Oscar De La Hoya takes a shot at Canelo Alvarez
Former promoter De La Hoya did not shy away from getting one up on the No. 1 pound for pound fighter. The former Mexican boxer compared his fight against Julio Cesar Chavez to Canelo Alvarez’s fight against Floyd Mayweather.
In his Instagram story, the 49-year-old disputed many fans’ claims that Alvarez was too young when he faced Mayweather. Hoya highlighted the fact that he was the same age as the Mexican, aged 23 when he took on Chavez.

He shared a story that stated, “Canelo wasn’t too young for Floyd. He simply wasn’t good enough, respectfully.” As Canelo lost his fight to Mayweather, De La Hoya defeated Chavez with a 4th-round stoppage to win the WBC super lightweight championship.
What happened between Canelo and Golden Boy Promotions?

Canelo Alvarez signed a lucrative $365 million deal with DAZN and golden boy promotions for an 11-fight-deal. However, things went south really quickly as the four-division champion sued DAZN, Oscar De La Hoya, and Golden boy promotions for not allegedly failing to fulfill their commitments.
Alvarez reached an agreement with the parties and was freed out of his $365 million contract. Canelo stated in an interview with Graham Bensinger that even though he was loyal to Golden boy promotions. Furthermore, the people at the promotion house only looked out for their benefit and not the fighters’ benefits.
