Former boxer and promoter Oscar De La Hoya is known for his charitable works. For the same cause, De La Hoya shared a very heartwarming message on his Instagram story where he invited boxing gyms to come forward and engage in a series of fundraising fights.
He encouraged his followers to help a family who recently suffered the loss of their child. He also shared the venue for the fight at Romos Boxing in El Centro, CA. But it is not the first time that Oscar De LA Hoya has offered help to a needy person.

A very young and talented kid, Julius Arevalos died a few days ago and it is a tough time for his family. The kid was only 13 years old, at the time of his death. The family is going through such a devastating time with the loss of their little one. The Golden Boy’s sweet gesture might give the family strength in this heart-wrenching time.
To send this message and share the pain of his family, De La Hoya took to Instagram and wrote a description about the fundraising fight, with the caption, “Please help his family R.I.P”. According to the post, the first bout will start at 2 PM on 14th January. He has invited all the boxing gyms in the state to participate so that more money can be raised. De La Hoya has done a bucket full of charitable works in the past.
The Golden Boy’s golden heart
Soon after he started his professional boxing career, he followed his heart to do something for the neediest people. His honorary foundation, ‘Oscar De La Hoya Foundation’ was started in 1995 with a vision to improve the quality of life of the common people. With his foundation, he has done numerous charity works. ‘The Golden Boy’ could very well have found the drive to help others from his mother’s words while on her deathbed. His mother who died of breast cancer at the age of 39, told De La Hoya, “The more you make, the more you must give back.”

His foundation has so far helped underprivileged youth have access to education. In 2003, his foundation built a school in East L.A., equipped with a high-standard boxing gym. Seeing his mother battling cancer impacted young De La Hoya. Later he donated $350,000 to the hospital where his mother was getting treated. Cecilia Gonzalez De La Hoya Cancer Center is now one of the most advanced cancer hospitals in the nation. Last year he donated $100,000 to the White Memorial foundation for their cleft-palate program. These are some of the many charity works of De La Hoya.
Despite achieving gold in the Olympics for boxing and being a 10-time title holder in 6 different weight classes, he remains a very humble and down-to-earth human being. It is safe to say that all the credit goes to his mother. ‘The Golden Boy’ surely lives up to his nickname.
