Gervonta Davis is undoubtedly one of the hardest punchers in the lightweight division. Rightfully nicknamed ‘Tank’, he is known for pummelling through his opponent’s defenses, leading to some sensational defenses. In fact, a recently resurfaced video showed his stellar finish against Leo Santa Cruz. And there’s no denying that it sent boxing fans into a frenzy.

Davis faced four-division world champion, Santa Cruz at The Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. It was reported that the fight that took place on October 31, 2020, saw over 9000 fans in attendance.

He was defending his WBA (Regular) lightweight title. Meanwhile, Davis was also fighting for Santa Cruz’s WBA (Super) super featherweight title.

The 6th round saw Davis proving, once again, why he is often called ‘Mini Mike Tyson‘. ‘Tank’ unleashed one of the most brutal uppercuts ever witnessed in boxing, instantly sending Santa Cruz to the canvas.

Moreover, this powerful performance also earned him The Ring Magazine Knockout of the Year for 2020.

On the other hand, a Twitter page called SpinningBackfist recently shared a video showcasing this brutal finish.

However, it should be mentioned that they wrongly mentioned that it happened 3 years back.

Gervonta Davis sends boxing fans into a frenzy

There is no denying that boxing fans were excited to rewatch the performance showcased by Gervonta Davis. And a lot of them even took to social media to share their thoughts about the same.

 

A lot of fans were quick to point out that the fight took place 2 years prior and not 3 years prior, as mentioned. In fact, user @Skeeve_Buscemi hilariously stated that the statement gave him ‘an existential crisis’.

Meanwhile, a few fans were in awe of the sensational knockout. Moreover, they even went on to call it one of the best uppercuts ever.

Similarly, a user mentioned that Santa Cruz made his moves predictable by throwing regular jabs.

However, not everyone was in support of Davis’ victory.
