Can a boxer who goes around in the standard weight of 160-170 pounds take on a walking mountain weighing over 400 hundred pounds in a street fight? Fans came across this interesting question through one of the Instagram posts. Guess who were the protagonists? Boxing’s own Gennady Golovkin and power’s own Hafthor Bjornsson. It didn’t take much time before comments started pouring in.
“MMA is the closest thing to a real fight,” ‘Rampage’ Jackson famously told two-time heavyweight champion Riddick Bowe over a discussion. But that probably sums up how far the combat sports world stretches. Because beyond that, there’s free for all. There are no rules, no weight limits, no rehydration clause, you name it. However, there’s no harm in allowing one’s imagination to flourish, right?

What would happen if one of boxing’s hardest punchers found himself pushed into a corner against one of the world’s strongest men? “Triple G vs. Bjornsson, who is 6’9” and weighs 430 pounds. In a street fight, who you taking??” the post asked.

Though not officially retired from boxing, ‘Triple G’ has stayed out of boxing since the trilogy fight against arch-rival Canelo Alvarez. Bjornsson, on the other hand, might be known for his role in ‘The Game of Thrones’ and his ‘World’s Strongest Man’ feats.
But, what many fans don’t seem aware of is that he has few boxing fights on record, along with participating in sparring sessions with grappling greats such as Gordan Ryan and Gunnar Nelson. Nonetheless, expertise apart, how would they turn against each other? What would be the outcome? With his powerful and precise shots, would Golovkin knock down the Icelander?

Mean streets and the battle for supremacy
From the tone of it to a few fans, the poser appeared a bit too unreal. It’s not even a comparison between a boxer and an MMA fighter. You’re talking about a specialist in gloves and one of the most well-known strong athletes. Let’s check out what some users had to say.
To this user, the size and weight advantage appears quite apparent who seems to have experience as a boxer. In a street fight, a much larger and heavier person would overwhelmingly defeat a much lighter person any day. They said, “As a boxer, the 400lb dude beats the 168lb dude in a street fight, no doubt.”
The next fan is probably well aware of ‘GGG’s extremely powerful and effective jabs. So, in their opinion, those familiar with boxing and Gennady Golovkin’s fighting style won’t need further explanation. “GGG with just his jab. If you know, you know,” the fan stressed.
However, for this follower, skill-set matters above the size. Having witnessed much lighter fighters knock off heavier opponents, they emphasized that ‘Triple G’ despite his experience of fighting in lower weight classes reputedly walked as if he were a heavyweight: “I’ve seen guys who were like 130 pounds knock 200-pound guys out cold. It’s all about skill, not size. Plus, Triple G probably walks around as a heavyweight anyway.”
Likewise, in the absence of any rules or referee, this fan also seemingly prefers to take the heavier fighter’s side in a street fight. Perhaps a lack of regulation would give him the advantage of overpowering the opponent using a clinch or resorting to grappling. “Mma guy, I’d take … but in a street fight with a boxer… I’d side with Thor on this one. Nothing to separate the clinch. No ref to break anything up once he grabs him,” the fan said.

Finally, this user took it upon himself to remind everyone of the reasons behind the prevalence of weight classes in combat sports: “You guys probably [forgetting] why weight classes exists right?”
But what about street fights? One might definitely ask. Anyways, the views pretty much capture the essence of how a battle between one of boxing’s biggest names and one of the greatest strongmen in human history might go.

‘Triple G’ would inevitably fall back on his punching prowess. But free from any hassles, Bjornsson may not wait and go for a quick takedown amidst appearing shots. How Golovkin could escape from the entanglement is a different issue. To push back a man 400 pounds heavy and then escape without getting himself hurt might appear a bit off the mark too many, as the comments displayed.
What about you? Between Gennady Golovkin and Hafthor Bjornsson, who would you pick for a win in a street fight?
