Boxing has proven time and time again that no fight is entirely predictable. Whether it’s the infamous fight between Mike Tyson and Buster Douglas or, more recently, the eye-opening fight between Gervonta Davis and Lamont Roach Jr., you can’t truly tell what will happen once the bell goes off. Still, that shouldn’t stop you from getting an inside scoop, especially on the upcoming Omari Jones vs. William Jackson fight.

Straight out of his Olympic run, Orlando, Florida’s brightest prospect, Jones, is out to make a name for himself in the professional scene. His opponent? Cincinnati’s William Jackson! Jackson might not have the sort of Olympic pedigree as Jones, but he does have experience in the ring going for him. However, the question is, will Jackson’s in-ring experience be enough to stop Jones in his tracks?

Predicting Omari Jones vs. William Jackson: Who has better stats and record?

Let’s start with Jackson! Debuted back in November 2008, the 36-year-old nicknamed ‘Action Jackson’ kicked off his career with a first-round knockout over fellow debutant Mike Dawson. His next fight saw the same result, but sadly, Jackson could not keep his knockout streak going for long. His next six fights saw a mix of performances.

Jackson’s perfect record came to a screeching halt against Yoryi Estrella two years into his boxing career when the fight ended in a split-decision draw. He bounced back with two back-to-back wins, but his next two bouts ended in two straight losses. Undeterred by the setback, though, Jackson got back to action, winning three fights before suffering another draw.

Since then, Jackson has fought thrice and lost all three fights, putting his professional record at 13-5-2. He also has some amateur experience with a record of 18-9, but nothing in it sets him apart from so many others. The 36-year-old currently has 5 knockouts, with a 38.46% knockout ratio. Jones, on the other hand, has extensive experience in the amateurs with a record of 30-11.

He made his professional debut against Alessio Mastronunzio last month in his hometown. Jones won the fight via second-round knockout, making it his only KO win. Interestingly, Mastronunzio had a somewhat similar resume to Jackson, and he couldn’t really do much against Jones, who currently holds a record of 1-0.

What’s your perspective on:

Can Omari Jones's Olympic pedigree outshine William Jackson's experience, or will Jackson pull off an upset?

Have an interesting take?

So, considering all this, Jones should be able to win the fight easily. While Jackson has more experience on paper, Jones has proven himself to be a gem in the making. The fight might not even go the distance, as Jones has showcased great knockout power.

Omari Jones vs. William Jackson: Height, weight, reach comparison, and more

Jones might have the upper hand because of his skills, but Jackson’s physical attributes could prove to be the difference maker. But is that the case? 22-year-old Jones measures 6′ 1″ (185cm), but details about his reach are currently unavailable. This gives him the age and height advantage over Jackson, who is 5′ 8″ (173cm) tall.

Unfortunately, details about Jackson’s reach are also unavailable. As for their weight, the pair is supposed to fight at welterweight, but details about their exact fight weight are not out yet. However, their previous weigh-in numbers could provide some insight into their weight in this fight. Jones’ last fight saw him weigh in at 149½ pounds.

Since that was his only professional fight, there’s not much to go off of. Jackson, on the other hand, has had a number of fights under his belt. In his last three fights, he weighed in 146¼, 150, and 144. The 36-year-old seems comfortable with switching weights frequently, so he should be able to come in for the fight under the stipulated limit.

In case he doesn’t, it will be his only advantage over Jones. But considering that both fighters make weight, Jones clearly has the better stats and advantage. The upcoming bout should not cause the newbie any trouble as he gets one step closer to his world championship dream.

That being said, boxing is no stranger to anomalies. While Jones has everything going for him, one wrong punch could change the fight entirely. But do you agree with the prediction, or do you think Jackson will shock the world?
