Their third face-off happened just three months later at Casa Blanca Hotel in Mesquite for the 2012 National Golden Gloves Quarter-Final. This time a lot more was on the line, so Davis turned the tables and got the win on points. Talk about intense matchups!

After that last bout, Joet Gonzalez made the jump to the pros, carrying with him a solid foundation from his amateur wins. He’s fought in different weight classes and had some notable fights, like challenging Shakur Stevenson for the WBO Featherweight title in 2019. Even though he’s had his share of tough matches, Joet’s always shown resilience and sharp boxing skills, keeping him up there as one of the top contenders in the featherweight division.

Throughout his career, Joet’s been guided by his dad, Jose Gonzalez, who’s not just his trainer but also his mentor. They’re all about boxing—it’s in their blood!

All about Jajaira Gonzalez’s parents

Jajaira Gonzalez attributes a significant portion of her success to her supportive parents, Jose Gonzalez and her mother from Glendora, California. While not much is known about her mother, Jose has been a constant presence, serving as both her father and coach every step of the way.

Jose has been like this anchor of strength and guidance for Jajaira since she was a kid. He was all about self-defense early on and got her into boxing when she was just eight. That decision basically kick-started her incredible career in the sport. In a recent video with Jake Paul, who’s the mental coach for USA Boxing, Jajaira said, “I started boxing when I was 8 years old; my dad forced me to box really at 8 years old.”

The Gonzalez family’s support for Jajaira and her siblings has been extraordinary. They have made significant sacrifices, investing substantial time and money to nurture their children’s athletic talents and Olympic aspirations. And it has certainly paid off! In addition to Jajaira, her siblings Joet, Jousce, and Jonjairo have all turned professional in boxing. If everything goes as planned, Jajaira is likely to make her professional debut after completing her Olympic journey.

Jose Gonzalez himself is beyond proud of everything Jajaira has achieved. From her groundbreaking stint as the first U.S. female boxer at the Youth Olympic Games in 2014 to snagging a bronze at the 2023 Pan American Games, he’s been there every step of the way, balancing the roles of coach and a proud dad like a champ.

So, the bottom line is that Joet Gonzalez has beaten Gervonta Davis not once but twice and then he succumbed to a loss at the hands of Davis during their last stint. It’s unlikely that they will fight again in the pro ranks, but those fights definitely helped shape the boxers they all are today. Did you know about these fights before?
