“I learned something new today…” said Jeffries on his post and asked, “Have you ever hit tires like this?” Then, sharing his familiarity with the technique, he revealed how much he enjoyed throwing punches previously. However, as he continued, he observed something different.

“I noticed if you’re relaxed and punching hard, you punch way faster,” said the Sunderland-born former professional boxer. The reason, he explained, could be due to the fact that punches tend to bounce off rubber tires upon landing. This rebound effect then allows the boxer to throw additional punches more quickly after the initial strike, facilitating a faster combination of punches.
The short clip featured him hitting a stack of tires hanging from the ceiling. Standing in the orthodox stance, he began with a flurry of combinations””at the face level””and then followed up with a body shot. After a brief pullback, he lunged again, throwing another set of combinations. Despite it being an open gym, the sound of his punches filled the air, and his hand speed appeared quite impressive.

In a post he shared a few days ago, Tony Jeffries displayed the feinting technique. “How much time do you spend on practicing feinting?” He asked followers. Emphasizing the importance of practicing feinting in boxing, ‘The Mighty Mackem’ suggested that many practitioners do not dedicate enough time to it. One method he recommended while practicing feint was that you should mimic all the body moments and actions you would use to throw a real punch””but stop short of actually throwing it.

“Do exactly as you would if you were to throw a punch””but don’t throw it,” he said, reminding everyone to ‘use your feet’. He urged all boxers to consistently work on the technique. The goal is to make feint as believable as possible, tricking your opponent into reacting as if a punch is coming. If it isn’t convincing, it is useless. He recommended practicing feints in all aspects of training. “Practice this in shadowboxing on the bags on the pads in sparring.”
