The character Rocky Balboa, played by actor Sylvester Stallone maintained an unorthodox and strict routine to prepare for his fights. Drinking raw eggs was among the many things that Rocky regularly did to supply his body with protein. However, how healthy and beneficial is drinking raw eggs for your body? Olympic Bronze medalist and former professional boxer Tony Jeffries recently reacted to Rocky’s unorthodox routine and spoke about raw eggs as a source of protein.

Reacting to Rocky’s intense training, Tony Jeffries remembered the time he was young and was inspired by Rocky. Speaking about drinking raw eggs, with a countenance teething yikes, he said, “Getting his protein from raw eggs. I remember when I was young, I got very inspired by Rocky Balboa. And I actually did this a few times, and I was nearly sick.”
Jeffries did not encourage the idea of drinking raw eggs to supply the body with protein. In his opinion, raw eggs could do more harm than good to anyone’s body. Jeffries, who himself attempted this routine and fell sick, discovered no benefits to doing this. “Honestly, I don’t think there’s any benefit to doing this. I think now it could do you more harm than good,” said Jeffries.

In Rocky, Sylvester Stallone ran with bricks in his hands during training. Jeffries, in this video titled ‘How Real is Rocky Balboa’s Training Methods in the Movie’, explained the benefits of carrying weights in hands while running. For boxers, who have to maintain their guards throughout the fight, there is an immense benefit to running with weights as Rocky did.
“Yes, there’s lots of benefits to running with weights in your hands. So, if you’re running with the bricks in your hands or weights in your hands, obviously your hands are trying to drop. And you’ve got to keep your arms up which is only going to help you build your shoulder endurance,” said Jeffries.
