Every effort proved to be futile when it came to making the Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk fight a reality. And now even Usyk’s team has dropped that dream and is planning to move forward to the next challenge involving the WBA’s mandatory opponent for Usyk, Daniel Dubois. Ironically, Dubois has the same promoters as Fury; he is also a part of Frank Warren‘s Queensberry. Dubois earned this opportunity to fight Usyk by taking the WBA World Heavyweight (regular) title from Trevor Bryan in June 2022, and then after 6 months, he defended this title against Kevin Lerena.
Now Usyk currently holds the full World Championship title, which is a one-step superior vis-à-vis the ‘regular’ WBA title, that Dubois holds at the moment. ‘Dynamite’, thus, became the mandatory opponent for the Ukrainian boxer. Many fans fear that this fight may end up seeing the same conclusion as the Fury fight. But Usyk’s promoter, Alex Krassyuk has reassured that the circumstances are different this time.

Alex Krassyuk has stated that they’re still in the negotiation phase with Dubois’ team, but as of now, nothing can be said with complete confidence. In a recent interview with BT Sport, Krassyuk said that they’re currently working on the negotiations, and once they’ve found a middle ground, they’ll instantly finalize the final date for the bout.
But if in case both parties are unable to find common ground, Krassyuk pointed out the difference between this fight and the Fury one. He said, “The difference between the Tyson Fury and Dubois [negotiations is that] this agreement is regulated by the rules.”
“So if we don’t find the resolution and the contract is not signed, at the end of the day we have the purse bid,”
Krassyuk reassured everyone who thought it’d be a situation similar to the Fury negotiations. But not everybody is happy with this potential fight of Usyk with Dubois. But, a previous opponent of Dubois believes it’s unfair that the ‘Dynamite’ is getting a title shot even before him.
The potential Usyk vs. Dubois fight is “very annoying” for this boxer
Joe Joyce is the former opponent of Daniel Dubois. And in their fight against each other, Joyce won the contest by a devastating 10th-round knockout. He is also a challenger for the WBO title of Oleksandr Usyk.
But currently, Usyk wants to prioritize his WBA championship belt. Hence, Joyce stated to talkSPORT that it’s quite frustrating for him to see Dubois holding the ‘regular’ WBA title as he himself was the WBA gold champion at one point. However, Dubois is going ahead with that title shot before him which was supposed to be his destiny.

He further said, “From beating him and now he’s got a world title shot before me is very annoying, but that’s how boxing works and you just have to deal with the cards you get dealt.”

Joyce predicts that it’ll be an easy fight for Usyk, and he’s got his money on the Ukrainian boxer for this one. But, he also thinks that Dubois has a very small chance if he manages to land a good ‘heavy shot’. Who do you think is going to win between Usyk and Dubois? Share your views in the comments section.
