Has there ever been a time when John Fury avoided attention? In the battle between the two Heavyweights, Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou, he made his presence felt once more, confidently declaring his son’s supremacy as the top heavyweight in boxing, all while being in close proximity to Mike Tyson, the legend.

Oleksandr Usyk, who has been hopeful about a match against Tyson Fury has in a recent interview, expressed his views on the topic. The scheduled face-off between the two fighters on December 23 was postponed following Fury’s contentious victory against the Cameroonian debutant. Usyk had been waiting for a good long while to take on the Heavyweight champion and prove himself superior. The new date has been revealed to be in 2024 February. Interestingly, John had named his son after the legendary knockout artist, who currently coached Ngannou. Despite his admiration for Tyson, John Fury boldly threw down the gauntlet. He challenged Tyson to a fight if his son failed to emerge victorious against Ngannou. The tension in the room was palpable as John Fury’s words echoed, adding an extra layer of intensity.

“I don’t know. I don’t question, It’s bullsh*t. Mike Tyson is a big boxer. He’s a big star, I know Tyson Fury. But fight is not possible, I think” says Usyk in an interview uploaded on YouTube by Boxing King Media. While Fury might still have it left in him, the person in question is ‘Iron’ Mike. Even with age slowly creeping in and pulling him away from the vigour with which he used to fight, he is still the boxer who everyone feared. Usyk did not hesitate in dismissing such possibilities. However, is Mike Tyson considering it?

Though Tyson initially believed Fury was “out of his mind” for suggesting a fight, he eventually came down to one condition when asked about a possible fight. In his characteristically calm demeanor, Tyson replied, “I don’t do that stuff anymore; I only fight for money.” When pressed further about his retirement status and the possibility of another exhibition match, he responded with his trademark blend of humor and honesty, saying, “Everyone wants me to do an exhibition, everyone! Hey, listen, the Price is Right.”

The interviewer lightened the conversation, acknowledging the financial aspect of professional sports and playfully wrapping up the exchange. Tyson might be considering the fight from a monetary lens. However, with his nerve disease and deteriorating health, a match might not be the best idea for the 57-year-old retired boxer.
