Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis seems to have secured the year’s first major face-off against divisional colleague Eimantas Stanionis. Reports suggest the two titleholders could potentially clash early in April. If that’s the case, why should Brian Norman Jr. be left behind? The WBO champion is tentatively scheduled to return on March 29, appearing on the Mikaela MayerSandy Ryan undercard.

The news has already been drawing attention for all the wrong reasons. However, Norman Jr. remains resolute; after dispatching Derrieck Cuevas, he plans to turn his focus back to Jaron Ennis and defeat him to become welterweight’s next unified champion. The young fighter’s latest declaration follows last year’s much-publicized negotiation with the ‘Boots’ Ennis’ team. Reportedly it fell apart due to disagreements over financial terms. At the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, Norman Jr. will defend his title for the first time against the Puerto Rican fighter. Last year, he defeated Giovanni Santillan to claim the interim title. By August, he had full championship status following Terence Crawford‘s move to the light middleweight division.
