Is Oscar De La Hoya's 'Joker' act a genius move or just a desperate gimmick?

Like or hate him, there’s no point in denying that Oscar De La Hoya continues to entertain the mundane halls of sweet science. When it comes to boxing, understandably, the ring steals the limelight as far as excitement goes. But there’s a world behind the curtains—it may not be so exciting but it’s still intriguing. However, the tense smoke-filled boardroom corridors often become taxing, thus shouting out loud for a change in the scene. Or at least, the characters need to play their roles differently. ‘The Golden Boy’ perhaps seems to have grasped the mystery behind the conundrum.

That could be the reason behind an endeavor to make the boxing world a bit more riveting. His weekly take on boxing news and trivia, ‘Thursday Clap Back,’ has been soaring in popularity. Perhaps it’s time to take his showmanship to another level. On Saturday, lightweight contender Floyd Schofield will face René Giron. The show’s final press conference coincided with Halloween. So why not fill the press room with fear? And what did he do? Picking up DC’s ‘Joker,’ the former six-division champion arrived to everyone’s amusement. But Hola! Lest anyone wander away from their paths, a ‘Nun’ joined!

A NUN from hell interrupted today’s press conference. WTF!!! @kid_austin1 @daznboxing Saturday night!!!!!” wrote Oscar De La Hoya as he shared the presser footage through an Instagram post. Just when the ‘Joker’ – De La Hoya, was about to deliver his speech at the podium, a ‘Nun’ holding a cross and the Holy Bible barged in.

A look of bewilderment appeared on ‘The Golden Boy’s face. Just when shouted for the security, the ‘Nun’ called out, “If you’re not already with Golden Boy Promotions, you have time to repent; you do; the end is near.” That look on Oscar De La Hoya’s face as the ‘Nun’ was finally taken away!

But there were smiles all over the face. Floyd Schofield raised his hands, and Gabriela Fundora had a wide grin across her face. Early footage showed De La Hoya arriving at the venue and meeting the boxers and other stakeholders. The event will take place at the Chelsea Ballroom of the luxury hotel, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.
