Having knocked out Clifford Etienne within 49 seconds of the first round of their fight, Mike Tyson informed Jim Gray that he had broken his back. While being glad that he gave Memphis “a decent show,” Mike Tyson, in his famous statement, told Gray, “I broke my back“. “My back is broken. Spinal,” he added. According to Tyson, he “probably” broke his back due to a “motorcycle accident“.

I was doing my sit-ups, 2500 a day with my 20 lbs weight. And one day, I could not move anymore. He [the doctor] said, ‘Believe it or not, your back is broken slightly’,” Tyson elaborated.
