In July, Errol Spence Jr and Terence Crawford clashed in an eagerly awaited welterweight fight. At 35, ‘Bud’ delivered a boxing masterclass, securing a ninth-round TKO victory. Both fighters entered the ring with unbeaten records, creating an exciting matchup. ‘Bud’ maintained his flawless record, moving to 40-0, and ended Errol Spence Jr.’s 28-fight winning streak.

After ‘Bud’s remarkable win over ‘The Truth,’ speculation ran rampant about his next opponent. However, it looks like the victory of Terence Crawford isn’t the same for everyone. This is because, in a recent interview, Rolando Romero weighed in on the fight. According to him, Bud’s win was merely “lucky.” Furthermore, he goes to the extent of undermining Crawford’s prowess.

Why does Rolando Romero think the victory of Terence Crawford was merely “lucky”?

In the interview with ES News, Rolando Romero starts off by clarifying that he has never sparred with Terrence Crawford. Moving on, he states that he doesn’t really care about Crawford. Instead, he had called out Errol Spence for a fight. According to Romero, he targeted Spence because he perceived him to be weak and fragile at this point in time.

‘Rolly’ said, “Never sparred Crawford. Look, I’ll tell you like this. I don’t really care about Crawford. I called out Spence, and I wanted to get that fight. Everybody knows why I called him out now.”

Furthermore, RR believes that Crawford got lucky in beating Spence. He argues that this victory doesn’t say much about Crawford’s skill. In his opinion, if Crawford had beaten Spence three years ago, it would have been a different story. He feels that a prime Spence would have easily defeated Crawford. He said, “I wanted to capitalize on it and Crawford got lucky and he was one that took.. he was able to capitalize on it. But like I said, him beating Spence doesn’t say much about Crawford. Because if he would have beat Spence, I don’t know, three years ago, well then that’s a complete… But Spence would have beat that s**t out of him, man. Everybody’s high on Crawford right now, but he’s not that special, man. He is not as special as people are thinking.”
