Devin Haney secured an impressive victory over Regis Prograis in San Francisco, maintaining his undefeated status. The 25-year-old boxer now holds the WBC super lightweight world champion title. This is a remarkable addition to his previous accolade as the undisputed lightweight champion. The judges’ unanimous decision reflected Haney’s dominance in the ring, with all three scoring the bout 120-107.
This triumph marks a significant achievement for Haney, while Prograis, who had held the super welterweight belt for 13 months, experienced his first defeat since October 2019. However, a shocking development has come up recently where the weights of both on fight night jumped higher than their weights at the Weigh-ins. This presents a different outlook altogether.

Haney made his debut in the super lightweight category. So at the weigh-in on the previous Friday, Haney confidently tipped the scales at 140 pounds. On the other side, Regis Prograis weighed 139 pounds for his second title defense. Therefore, both the fighters were at their optimum weights for the super-lightweight bout. However, a recent revelation came to light that will change your perception regarding weigh-ins.
Since Haney stepped inside the ring on December 9th, he put on 25 pounds of weight in just one night, as he weighed 165 lbs. While, Prograis had gained 17.8 pounds, which resulted in 156.8 lbs. So, both boxers had a drastic difference in their actual weight, which pushed fans in favor of the rehydration clauses.
Nobody likes an unfair fight, and a significant weight advantage does give one fighter an edge over the other. Haney had an approximately 8-pound advantage over his opponent Regis Prograis. For that reason, the fans thought it was an unfair fight. They showed their disapproval in the comments section.
Fans accuse Devin Haney of being a “weight bully”
The boxing fans criticized the former undisputed champion for coming into the fight with a massive weight advantage over Prograis. Interestingly, Prograis had also gained a lot of weight since the weigh-ins. Still, the fans expressed their distress.
One of the fans stated that Haney took advantage of his weight and bullied other fighters inside the ring.

Another fan mentioned that these things shouldn’t happen in the sport, as it makes the fight unfair. They supported rehydration clauses to prevent such things on fight night.
This is sad as fuck that this is even allowed honestly. Not a fair fight. This is why Rehydration clauses exist. To stop extreme weight advantages.

An X user talked about how this needs to stop since both of them had huge differences in their fight right after a day of the weigh-ins.
Damn, that's a huge weight difference. These fighters really need to start fighting at their REAL weight and stop the weight bullying.
