Ahead of the fight on the 22nd of April, at the official weigh-in for Ryan Garcia vs. Gervonta Davis, the current WBA (regular) lightweight title holder ‘Tank’ Davis ran into an altercation with 54-year-old Bernard Hopkins. While ‘Tank’ faced off with ‘KingRy’, Hopkins leaned in and touched ‘Tank’, immediately infuriating Davis. Following the altercation on the stage, while Hopkins spoke about ‘Tank’ being worried, Davis slammed Hopkins by calling the same old.
According to the former and the first unified middleweight champion after Marvin Hagler, Gervonta Davis had a problem making weight for the bout on the 22nd of April. However, Davis completely disliked Hopkins touching him at the official weigh-in. And, following the argument, in an interview with Ariel Helwani, ‘Tank’ asked Hopkins to “sit back” and let the young ones do it.

After the heated argument with Bernard Hopkins, Davis shut down Hopkins and assured the fans that he will win the bout against Garcia. “He was talking about that life. Nobody’s worried about his old ass, he needs to sit back and let the young’uns do it,” declared Gervonta Davis. Following the comments on Hopkins, looking at the fans, Davis revealed what the entire arrangement meant to him. In his own words, he is excited and cannot wait to deliver a “great performance” on the 22nd of April.

“It just makes me excited, man. Makes me want to go out there and put on a great performance in front of the beautiful fans and things like that. And get the job done,“ Davis told Ariel Helwani. On being asked about the manner in which he would win the fight, Davis spoke about “punishment” and knockout. In addition, he advised the fans to remain focused. Before walking away, the resident of Baltimore, who has so far treaded on an unbeaten path, assured the fans it would be an incredible fight. “Punishment, knock out. Don’t get no popcorn, don’t get no drink, none of that. Make sure you’re all focused. Focus on the fight, it’s going to be an incredible fight,” concluded Davis.
