

Derek Chisora has offered to step in against Dillian Whyte after initial challenger and interim WBC heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin was hospitalized after testing positive for the coronavirus. Povetkin was set to defend his interim strap after a shocking win over the former title contender.

During an Instagram Live with Eddie Hearn, Chisora expressed his interest in fighting ‘The Body Snatcher’ after Povetkin’s withdrawal from the Nov.21 bout.

“I will tell you what… you want to give me that fight? November 21st?” Chisora continued, “You want to give it to me? No bruises, ready to rock-and-roll. Trilogy.”
Derek Chisora is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk. Chisora had the opportunity to fight for Anthony Joshua‘s WBO belt. However, he failed to get the job done, losing a close fight against the undefeated boxer.
“Do you want to give it to me? Think about it. Let me know and I will take it.” Chisora concluded.
Dillian Whyte takes on Alexander Povetkin in 2021
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that the much-anticipated rematch will now take place in January 2021. Hearn announced, “Unfortunately we got the news today that Alexander Povetkin is in hospital after testing positive for COVID-19. The fight will now be rescheduled to a target date of Jan 30.”

Whyte was the WBC mandatory challenger Deontay Wilder’s WBC strap. However, the British heavyweight took the risk of going against the Russian heavyweight and needless to say, he paid a heavy price. Whyte dominated Povetkin for the better part of the entire bout.

Additionally, he secured multiple knockdowns in the fourth round. However, Povetkin connected a brutal uppercut which dropped ‘The Body Snatcher’ on the canvas. In the process, he became the second boxer to hand Whyte a loss inside the boxing ring after Anthony Joshua.

Moreover, Eddie Hearn took to Twitter to tease a potential Dillian Whyte vs Tyson Fury bout. Both the boxers have had their fair share of back-and-forth on social media. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Whyte as he takes on Povetkin in 2021. Needless to say, Whyte will be the favorite ahead of the bout. Additionally, with ‘The Bronze Bomber‘ out of the title picture until 2022, boxing fans could see Whyte fight for the title belt real soon.
