Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter went to war last weekend. Once again, the Omaha native proved to the world that he is a legitimate threat to 147 and that he is indeed a top pound-for-pound fighter.
Even though he dropped Shawn Porter twice in round 10 and ended the clash with the second knockdown, the boxing world remains split over who was leading the scorecards before round 10. While the offiial scorecards show a clear landslide lead for Crawford, there were also some who saw Porter at par.

A new video has now surfaced on the internet and it shows a close-up of Terence Crawford‘s corner after the ninth bell. Before heading into the tenth round, someone in his corner told him that Porter was up on the scorecards and that he was lagging behind. And, Crawford simply couldn’t believe it.
He can be heard asking repeatedly – “He’s up, how?“. However, his cornerman then asked, “Come on Bud, pay attention to us“. Getting back up after the break, he kept asking and telling his corneremen, “they said he up, we ain’t up“.

This clearly got to him; just hearing that he was trailing behind and that he was not the dominant fighter did not sit well with Terence Crawford. So, what did he do next? He stepped into round 10, dropped Porter twice and forced his opponent’s corner to throw in the towel.
Terence Crawford sent Shawn Porter into retirement
After nine rounds of intense nonstop action between the two, Terence Crawford went in deep in round 10 and dropped Shawn Porter twice. While he was able to dust off the first knockdown, the second time did not sit well with him. As he remained down, he banged the canvas with his glove in frustration.
His dad, Kenny Porter, picked up on his frustration and inability to cope with Crawford’s talent. So, he stepped in and threw in the towel. While many saw this as controversial, Porter himself recently cleared up the air by saying his father’s decision to intervene was justified and that it only made sense.
“I give my dad a 100% pass because I understand my dad so even in moments when ya’ll may not understand him or you hear what he says and you may not agree with what he says, I know how to weave through what he says and find his points.

After the fight, Porter even announced retirement. He higlighted that regardless of the outcome that night, he had always planned to hang up his gloves after this fight. He recently even said that he is now looking forward to the next phase of his life.
“So you can’t expect everyone to do that especially his points. We haven’t had a full conversation about this retirement but I have a pretty good feeling that my dad is completely at peace with everything. I am as well. That being said, I’m looking forward to the next chapter,” said Shawn Porter.
