Negotiations Can’t Take Place Until Wilder and Pulev Step Aside- Eddie Hearn on Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed preliminary talks are underway, to stage the mega all-Brit unification bout. Various sources claimed that negotiations are underway between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, but this was quickly put to rest by Eddie Hearn.

Eddie Hearn on Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury

‘Definitely, negotiations aren’t underway. ‘We have a contract to fight Kubrat Pulev next, Tyson Fury has a contract to fight Deontay Wilder next. ‘Obviously with everything that’s happening there is keenest from our side and Tyson Fury’s side to potentially go straight into that fight.” Said Hearn

Despite initial talks taking place, there are several hurdles both promoters face before they can set up this mega bout. The most obvious one being the situation surrounding the pandemic. Major sporting events are canceled, with no guarantees made on when boxing will return. Moreover, the prospect of having an audience will be impossible due to the various social-distancing protocols put in place. The second reason is that both Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury have locked in deals for their next fight. Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are looking to settle their scores in the trilogy bout. Also, Anthony Joshua is set to face his mandatory challenger Kubrat Pulev

‘Firstly, there are no negotiations that have taken place and those negotiations can’t take place until we know if Deontay Wilder will step aside and Kubrat Pulev will step aside.’ Said Hearn

However, Hearn confirmed that they have received multiple offers from Saudi Arabia and other middle-eastern countries to host the fight.

‘Everything is solvable with money. What has been happening is we’ve had a number of approaches from territories asking and enquiring and offering to stage that fight. ‘Myself and MTK have looked at those offers and discussed when this fight might take place.’ Said Hearn

With fight fans eager to see the unification bout take place, we can hope it happens sooner rather than later
