After his stunning victory over Marlon Tapales, Naoya Inoue is ready to defend his undisputed Junior Featherweight title against Mexican boxer Luis Nery. The two fighters have been phenomenal in their division given they have won a considerable number of fights via knockouts. Meanwhile, both boxers are in their prime and wish to forge respectful legacies.

Naoya Inoue to defend his undisputed Junior Featherweight title against Luis Nery in May

Only in July last year Naoya Inoue made his debut at 122 lbs and faced Stephen Fulton. With an 8th-round TKO victory, ‘Monster’ became a unified Junior Featherweight champion in the sport. In his next fight, he defeated Marlon Tapales to become the undisputed Junior Featherweight champion. Meanwhile, Luis Nery has also remained a unified Junior Featherweight champion in boxing. Currently, he is 35-1-0. Anyway, Mike Coppinger from ESPN took to X and confirmed when and where the two will fight.

As per Mike Coppinger, Naoya Inoue vs. Luis Nery will take place on May 6 at the Tokyo Dome. In addition, Coppinger informed that the fight will be streamed on ESPN+ on Monday morning in the US. In this context, it is worth mentioning that while Inoue, Mike Tyson’s favorite, won 23 of his fights via knockouts, Nery has 27 knockouts in his professional career.

However, going by the records, Nery has more experience than Inoue. The Mexican boxer made his pro debut in 2012 and remained undefeated with 31 bouts till he embraced his first loss. Anyway, in 2017, after he won against Shinsuke Yamanaka, Nery failed the drug test and had to rematch Yamnaka with his WBC bantamweight title on the line.

However, this time Nery knocked out Yamanaka in the second round of the fight and successfully defended his title.
