A young man’s hunger for greatness was on a collision course with his mother’s concern. Mike Tyson, known for his larger-than-life personality, was once given a harsh reality check by his mother. The relationship between Tyson and his mother was hot and cold. In a recent post made on social media, Tyson revealed his troubled relationship with his mother.
During the nascent stages of his career, ‘The Baddest Man on the Planet” was a pompous young man. He thought that he would never be defeated and his mother attempted to caution him over such haughty assertions. However, Tyson brushed it off and did not pay much respect to her warning.

A post was made by mad.aboutboxing on Instagram. The caption of the post capsulated Tyson’s narration of the time he argued with his mother. Tyson was making some bold assertions about being undefeated forever. However, his mother, while citing many examples of greats, cautioned her child.
Reflecting on this incident, Tyson stated, “I’m going to be the youngest heavyweight champion of the world. My manager says that I’m going to be the best ever, nobody in the world can beat me,”

His mother responded, “Well, they got Joe Louis one time. They got Cassius Clay too,” she adds, “You have to be careful, there’s always someone better. You always have to remember to handle your defeats as well as you handle your victories.” After arguing with one another over the same, Tyson revealed, “My mother pushed away from the table, ignored my clippings, and went in another room.”
To some extent, Tyson proved himself right by becoming the youngest heavyweight champion in the world. However, his mother was not wrong either in pointing out the fact that anyone can be defeated— including the greats. And intriguingly, Tyson was defeated six times in his career.
However, there was one time when his mother unwittingly saved him from being imprisoned, however, he paid a heavy price.
Throwback to when Mike Tyson’s mother saved him from having a police record
Tyson had a rough childhood. At one point, a young ‘Iron Mike’ was sent to jail and the police were soon going to charge him. However, his mother came to his jail cell and started to beat him up. Witnessing the same, the police felt sorry for the teenager and released him.

He stated,
“One time they were supposed to write up a report on me and my mother stormed in and beat my a*s so bad they didn’t even write me up.” Safe to say that Tyson’s mother had a significant impact, even though she gave Tyson a considerable amount of trauma.
