Is Jake Paul tarnishing boxing's legacy, or is he just the shake-up the sport needs?

“Jake Paul is an embarrassment to this sport,” said Nico Ali Walsh, grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali, after ‘The Problem Child’ defeated Mike Tyson in Texas. Tyson’s loss left many fans and fighters heartbroken, as the former heavyweight champion was indeed a shell of his former self.

‘The Baddest Man On The Planet’ lost steam after the first round and was like a passenger for the rest of the fight. Seeing their idol helpless in a boxing ring really hurt many boxers. Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, and Walsh called Jake Paul out for his shenanigans. However, it looks like Walsh is far from done with his choice of words. He is still unsatisfied and wants to avenge Mike Tyson under one specific condition.

The rising middleweight star has been on Paul’s radar for a very long time. ‘The Problem Child’ has previously challenged Ali’s grandson for either an MMA or a boxing match. Walsh has always rejected those challenges, as he does not want to engage in mismatch spectacles. However, Mike Tyson’s loss has changed the situation and the 24-year-old is ready to accept Jake Paul’s challenge. However, he does not want to do it for money and wants the fight so that he can avenge his idol.

The Chicago native shared a post by brobible on his Instagram story, which stated, “Muhammad Ali’s grandson willing to avenge Mike Tyson and fight Jake Paul.” Unlike previous times, Walsh did not deny these reports and commented that he would only do the fight if the money went to charity.

“If this ever happened, the money goes to charity. Or no deal,” wrote Walsh, implying that no fighter will earn a payday from the potential bout. This is the first time that Nico Ali Walsh has even considered fighting Jake Paul. Previously, he has always rejected the offers made by MVP, stating that his pride won’t allow him.

After his victory against Sona Akale in June, Walsh revealed in the post-match interview that he rejected an offer from MVP. He added that he wanted to “fight against a real fighter,” and called Paul a “circus act.” As expected, ‘The Problem Child’ did not sit idle and called Walsh a fraud and accused the latter of ducking him.

A few weeks later, in an interview with SkySports, Walsh admitted that fighting Jake Paul would earn him his biggest payday, yet he rejected the offer before he “even heard the numbers.” According to him, it was not about money and his pride won’t allow that. “How much are you willing to sell out for? Anyone else can do it.”

He further talked about how his surname holds a legacy and he can’t put that at risk just for money. “I’m an Ali, I hold my name in such higher weight, I don’t believe I should be playing in the mud with the likes of Jake Paul,” stated Walsh.

It looks like the rising boxing star will remain true to his words. Even though he wants to avenge Mike Tyson, he does not want to do it for money. Rather, he wants to do it for the legacy his grandfather and Tyson left behind that is being endangered by Jake Paul.
