Without a doubt, Gervonta Davis, Shakur Stevenson, and Devin Haney, boxers who currently comprise ESPN’s top-four lightweight list, are right now the face of boxing. With back-to-back electrifying performances inside the ring, the trio has impressed boxing fans and critics. While Devin Haney, in his last fight, defeated Vasyl Lomachenko to remain the undisputed lightweight champion, Shakur Stevenson beat Shuichiro Yoshino via TKO in April.
On the other hand, Gervonta Davis generated a gate of $22.8 million in his last fight against Ryan Garcia. Certainly, it is safe to state that Haney, Stevenson, and Davis comprise the metonymy for present-day boxing. These three boxers arguably rule the sport, and this has led to many fangirling after them, including Roy Jones Jr., who recently got candid about what these stars meant to him!

Roy Jones Jr. discovers “modern-day Mike Tyson” in Gervonta Davis
In his recent exclusive with the Sporting Post, Jones Jr. announced that even though Stevenson and Haney were entertaining, Davis simply contributed a different level of entertainment to the sport. To be precise, the WBC lightweight title holder reminds Jones Jr. of ‘Kid Dynamite’. “Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson are entertaining, but Tank is the most entertaining guy because he has that Mike Tyson level of entertainment,” said Roy Jones Jr.

According to Jones Jr., with ‘Tank,’ anything can occur “inside or outside the ring”. “He’s very powerful, and anything can happen at any time, inside or outside the ring,” Jones Jr. added. “Tank is a modern-day Mike Tyson,” he emphasized. But Davis wasn’t the only boxer he sang praises of. The 54-year-old also went on to commend Haney and Shakur!

Jones Jr. thinks Haney and Shakur are “top-level boxers”
While Davis is the modern-day Mike Tyson, Jones Jr. is ready to accept that Haney and Shakur are top-level athletes in the sport. Along these lines, he mentioned that he likes Jaron Ennis too. In his opinion, as far as entertainment is concerned, Ennis, Haney, Stevenson, and Davis are the ones to look at.
He said, “Haney and Shakur are both really top-level boxers. I like Jaron Ennis, those are my top four right now as far as the entertainment factor goes.” “You’re getting something when they box and with Jaron, you’re going to get that old Roy Jones flavour too,” Jones Jr. concluded.
