Jake Paul, it seems, is standing at a crossroads as far as boxing goes. The YouTuber would land at the ‘Do or Die’ zone once he opens the chutes. However, the loss to Tommy Fury on February 25 changed the game for Paul. Thus far, he rode on a string of success since he professionally debuted in 2020. However, as he prepares for a decisive fight against Nate Diaz, Paul reckons the odds are stacked against him.

Since his debut against fellow YouTuber AnEsonGib on January 30, 2020, Jake Paul’s gamble into boxing reaped rich dividends. Bout after bout, he defeated a well-known name in the ring. But as critics often highlighted, barring exceptions such as Gib and Nate Robinson, his remaining opponents constituted mixed martial artists. Moreover, they were way out of their prime, having expertise in a grappling form than a striking art such as boxing.

Nevertheless, last year’s victory over former UFC champion Anderson Silva at least affirmed his claim as a serious boxer. But fate had other plans in store for Jake Paul. The long-drawn run-in with the Fury clan member finally paved the way for a pivotal clash in February this year. Tommy Fury, the half-brother of Tyson Fury and scion of a family with deep roots in boxing, proved that he had better claims as a boxer than Paul.

Jake Paul means business against Nate Diaz

Probably that’s why during the press conference, he weighed in as to how it meant being on the precipice. Michael Benson shared a bit of Paul’s statement through his Twitter handle.

During the press conference at the American Airlines Center yesterday, Ariel Helwani addressed Paul and asked, “Do you feel, considering what happened in February, like there is more pressure on your shoulders to prove to everyone that you know you belong here that you can have a successful boxing career and that you can beat someone of his caliber?

Paul replied, “100, you know I’m filled with vengeance, ambition, hunger drive more than ever before. Um, I have a lot to prove, two chips on each shoulder, and it’s Do or Die. For me, truly, this fight is do or die. I have to leave it all on the line, and I think that’s the same for Nate Diaz.

The response got Helwani curious. He wanted to know if by ‘Do or Die,’ Paul meant he would be over with boxing in case of a defeat. So he asked, “And by the way, when you say Do or Die, do you mean if you lose this fight, you’re done?” Paul responded, “In my mind, that’s how I’m treating it….” Clearly, ‘The Problem Child’ is taking the fight with utmost seriousness. Given how the outcome would be treated concerning the time ahead in boxing, it would be in his interest not to leave no stone unturned.
