Canelo Alvarez is still the undisputed super middleweight champion. He successfully defended his super middleweight titles for the third time and this time against Jermell Charlo. Before their fight, the unofficial challenger of Alvarez, David Benavidez, also announced his brother, Jose Benavidez Jr‘s matchup against Jermall Charlo. Well, this was a strategy set up by the Benavidez brothers to lure Alvarez for a contest against David Benavidez. Benavidez believed that after defeating Jermell Charlo, Alvarez would be thinking of taking on his older brother, Jermall Charlo.
He assumed that even the WBC would grant this exemption to boxing royalty. For that reason, Benavidez wants his brother to take on Jermall and explains, “So after we take the other Charlo out of the equation, then it’s just me and Canelo right there.” Moreover, he’s recently teased his fight against Canelo Alvarez on social media. This time, he tried to take a different route to get under Alvarez’s skin.

David Benavidez wants to prove to the world that he’s the best Mexican boxer, the world has ever seen. For that, he knows he’ll have to defeat the current best Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez. On a side note, even boxing legend Mike Tyson feels Benavidez can get the better of “Canelito”. So, the 26-year-old boxer is trying to take any path that will ensure him the desired matchup against Alvarez. Now, after the impressive victory over Jermell Charlo, Benavidez teased the undisputed super middleweight champion via his Instagram Story.
He shared a post, where the records of Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez have been placed in juxtaposition to each other. Alvarez has only been defeated two times in all of his career, and has won 60 times and has 2 draws on his record. While Benavidez has won 27 of his 27 fights and 23 of them came by a knockout. It is to be noted that Alvarez turned pro 17 years ago, while Benavidez has been in the professional business for only a decade.

Currently, David Benavidez is preparing for his fight against Demetrius Andrade to defend his interim WBC super middleweight championship belt. After this fight, he’ll become the mandatory challenger for Canelo Alvarez, which is why he’s keen on getting this fight. On the other hand, when the reporters asked Alvarez about this fight, he couldn’t give them a proper answer.
In a video uploaded by Fight Hub TV, Canelo Alvarez talked about how he’s satisfied with his performance against Charlo. He said, “I almost feel like, ‘I’m the best’ and I feel I’m the best, so I’m happy with the performance tonight.” After this, a reporter shouted through the crowd of media, “Is Benavidez gonna get it?” Canelo Alvarez replied, “We don’t know buddy.”
