‘The Greatest’ Muhammad Ali has left behind a legacy that will forever be imprinted in the realm of boxing. When the sport of boxing is discussed, his name will inadvertently come up in conversation. The heavyweight boxer had a stellar record of 61 bouts out of which he won 56. There has been a plethora of commercial gaming projects that have emerged owing to his glorious boxing career, and the recent one is a mobile game.

Considered to be a legend, the late Olympic Gold Medalist is a household name in American popular culture. He has also been used as a character in multiple video games. From the days of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, including the appearances in EA’s Fight Night series throughout the early 2000s which was much liked by gaming fans. However, the most iconic one remains his appearance in the Japanese-exclusive Virtual Pro Wrestling 64. He was an unlockable character skin for Antonio Inoki.

A part of the WWE video game universe, Muhammad Ali lives on

Of course, pro wrestling and boxing, are two different leagues. And Muhammad Ali has been a part of an epic crossover event between the two. In 1985, he served as the special guest outside referee for a tag team match featuring  Hulk Hogan and Mr. T against Roddy Piper and Mr T. His appearances at wrestling events have been iconic moments in combat sports. Almost 40 years later, his persona will yet again be associated with the sport.

It was announced earlier that Muhammad Ali will be available on the WWE Champions mobile game. His character will be allowed to be unlocked by completing the “Sting Like A Bee” Solo Contests from July 31 to August 4. His character will show some of the iconic moves he is historically associated with.

For instance, the Ali Shuffle. The effective footwork is known to be of such great speed that his opponents could hardly ignore it. Another such move that will be featured in the game is the Twenty-One Dodges. The move is an ode to the historical moment in 1977 when Ali demonstrated 21 dodges in a mere time of 10 seconds. It was an exhibition match against Michael Dokes. The game also includes a host of other moves associated with the legend.

Players in the game will also be able to earn the “Sting Like a Bee” Medallion currency. They can do so through Showdown Tournament and Solo Contests. The currency will enable them to redeem further rewards from WWE Champions’ new Prize Wall. It hosts an assortment of Muhammad Ali-themed cosmetic items.

The game entered the market in 2017 and is a free-to-play puzzle RPG that allows players to attack their opponents by matching falling gems. Its format is not of a combat sports game per se but mostly is themed around it.
