The year 2022 is going to mark some historical milestones in the sport of professional boxing. Back to back, it is going to witness the toughest, and the most hyped events, as long-time rivals are going to settle their grudges in the ring. The base of some of these bouts was set years back and they will finally reach their culmination in 2022.
Among pretty intense showdowns, the boxing speculators are expecting one more rivalry match to happen this year. According to Michael Benson, a boxing insider, “David Benavidez vs Caleb Plant is in the works for a potential fight in September, according to Benavidez’s father/trainer Jose Benavidez Sr. Benavidez is first set to fight David Lemieux on May 21st.”

According to various reports, Jose Benavidez Sr is initiating the process for his undefeated son to face the former IBF super middleweight, Caleb Plant. Though it is still uncertain. But the hint that talks are in progress between best super-middle weights and longtime rivals is enough to get media attention.
Why David Benavidez and Caleb Plant are rivals?
Notably, both fighters have already got enough attention through their links with the undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. However, ‘Sweet hands’ was actually outboxed by the pound-for-pound king on 6 November 2021 in the undisputed clash. Though it was a tough battle, it eventually ended with the Mexican Star’s victory.
Whereas Mike Tyson’s ‘Monster’ is of the opinion that Canelo has ducked him.
However, this was something common between the duo, apart from battling within the same weight division.

For the uninitiated, the two-time WBC super-middleweight David Benavidez and Caleb Plant have sheltered a grudge against each other for years, and it appeared frequently on social media platforms.
Recently, ‘Sweethands’ took to Twitter and wrote, “Fatboy can’t f*ck with me.”

Moreover, in 2018, there was an intense clash between their camps.

However, despite being rivals, they could not make a fight.
As of now, according to Box.Live, ‘The Red Flag’ is going to trade leather with David Lemieux on 21st May 2022. The fight will land in the United States, though the arena is yet to confirm.
