Was Mike Tyson's loss to Buster Douglas the biggest upset in boxing history, or just a fluke?

The Sweet Science is not only a quest for glory and title but also where the two fighters put on a show and fight for the fans. The boxers receive unwavering support from their fans amid tumultuous phases. But a few losses feel personal and like a punch to the gut to the fans. When given an opportunity, they spilled their worst losses, which had the likes of Mike Tyson vs. Buster Douglas, and Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz on there. So, which other losses are boxing fans still not able to process?

Benson, a renowned boxing editor for talkpsort, turned to his X handle and sparked a conversation that had the fans listing out the worst losses they witnessed, even listing out the reasons. He had asked, “Which defeat for a favourite fighter of yours made you the saddest?”

A fan admitted that Anthony Joshua losing his undefeated record and his unified heavyweight straps to Andy Ruiz Jr. had the saddening effect. They wrote, “AJ losing to Ruiz 🥲.” The fight is considered to be one of the biggest upsets in heavyweight boxing, as ‘AJ’ had crushed every opponent he had faced till then, and therefore, Ruiz was a 25-1 underdog.

A user recalled the famous first Mike Tyson loss, which no one saw coming. They noted, “Mike Tyson lost to Buster Douglas.” ‘Iron Mike’ had dismantled every opponent and was the clear favorite to win this encounter, too. But Douglas had different plans, as he pulled arguably the biggest upset in heavyweight history.

Someone pointed to the Ricky Hatton loss against Floyd Mayweather, which had become a frustrating fight for the victor. They disclosed, “Ricky hatton against floyd and its not even close.” Hatton and Mayweather had put their undefeated records on the line, but a point deduction in the sixth round for Hatton changed the tide of the fight, as it went downhill for him and only ended with his corner throwing a towel in the later rounds.

A comment referenced the Roy Jones Jr. vs. Antonio Tarver fight, as Jones Jr. went down in the division and fought for Tarver’s titles. The comment read, Roy jones vs tarver had me in shock next day at school.” However, the weight cut took a toll on Jones Jr., and he even found himself bleeding with a cut along a gushing nose. But he still won the fight, despite fans and the viewers seeing it differently.

Another fan turned their attention to Errol Spence Jr. vs. Terence Crawfords battle for the undisputed crown at welterweight. They announced, “Errol Spence. That fight was sad as hell.” ‘Bud’ put on an impressive display and never allowed Spence Jr. an opening or a moment in the fight, leading up to a KO win.
