Since it began four years ago, ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson has been achieving one milestone after the other. In its fourth season, the ever-popular podcast has set a bar for the rest to emulate. In each episode, viewers come across outstanding athletes and celebrities with loads of beautiful stories to share with ‘Iron’ Mike, who, in return, regales them with his captivating tales. And then there are times when an anecdote freaks out the once ‘Baddest Man on The Planet.’

In the podcast’s latest episode, distinguished comedian and actor Tommy Davidson joined Tyson and his co-host DJ Whoo Kid. Davidson started his career in 1984 and made a name for himself through marquee performances in shows such as ‘In Living Color,’ ‘B**ty Call,’ ‘Malcolm and Eddie,’ ‘The Proud Family,’ and many others.

So around the forty-minute mark, the trio got around talking about music. ‘Iron’ Mike mentioned Hollywood icon Eddie Murphy‘s name. Davidson took hardly any time to impersonate Murphy and sang one of the latter’s hit numbers – ‘Party All the Time.‘ Then he explained how music helped him grow and wanted to become a singer. Then he explained how the ‘Jackson 5’ fascinated him.

Intrigued, Whoo Kid asked, “I was gonna bring up [is] Michael Jackson. Is Michael Jackson the easiest to do? Is Michael Jackson the easiest out of all other impersonations?” Davidson replied in the affirmative and explained how making Jackson’s impression gave him some ‘good success.’ So when Whoo Kid enquired whether Jackson disapproved of his work, the guest agreed.

The discussion then veered toward Michael Jackson, and Mike Tyson shared his experiences with the ‘King of Pop.’ He revealed that Jackson had said something disparaging that resulted in him disliking the pop star initially till they met. But thankfully, they became friends with a bit of help from a familiar friend, Rodney Jerkins.

Tyson said, “…it was just amazing getting to know him; he’s…normal guy, great businessman….smart, very smart, intelligent, articulate.” But Davidson added that his experience differed and called Jackson ‘pretty cheap.’ So when Mike Tyson told him to explain, he shared what happened after he received an invitation to perform at Michael Jakson’s residence.

He said, “I went over there to his house I was there all day. Me and my daughter took a limo all the way there I ain’t get paid I’m cool, right? The whole day Santa Barbara you know, did a performance. I was the emcee and everything wow. So when I got home, I called the person who asked me to do the show.” So when he checked to get a reimbursement for the limo bill, the lady informed him, “Michael doesn’t do that...Michael doesn’t pay for things.

Everyone started having a hearty laugh. But it seemed Davidson was not done. He shared that at the end of the day, he had nothing but love and admiration for the great musician.
