Boxing legend, Roberto Durán, continues to receive medical care. Hours ago, his family informed the media that the 72-year-old Panamanian was admitted to the hospital with a heart-related illness. They also made a plea to his fans, asking them to pray for the boxing legend. As wishes for his quick recovery emerged, Mike Tyson, too, expressed his concern for Durán while also wishing him well.
Duran’s family, in a social media post, had said, “The Durán family reports that our champion suffered a health complication due to a Complete Atrioventricular “Complete AV Block”. We are awaiting results so we can later share more information about your health.”
57-year-old Tyson remains busy in the gym, training for his upcoming fight against Jake Paul. On his Instagram reels, Iron Mike conveyed his wishes for the four-division champion whom he once referred to as his favorite fighter and whom Mike Tyson also modeled his career and demeanor after. In the video, Tyson said, “Roberto Durán, this is Mike Tyson, wishing you a real quick recovery. I am here signing autographs when you told me you were supposed to be here, and that you were sick. I love you and I wish you well, brother.”

An update on his health was provided by boxing commentator, Juan Carlos Tapia, who based on his conversation with the boxer’s wife revealed, “Roberto is calm in the hospital and they will give him a pacemaker. He is calm and stable.” The commentator also informed followers that Durán was scheduled to be in Chicago for an event. What is ‘Atrioventricular Blockade’?
An atrioventricular block refers to a slower heart rate caused by issues with the heart’s electrical system. When someone suffers such a blockade, the electrical impulses of the heart to keep blood pumping in the body may either be slowed or blocked. There are three levels of Atrioventricular blockades, with the first degree being the faintest of the condition while the third degree being the most severe.
Some of the most common symptoms of the condition could include a slower heart rate, lightheadedness, dizziness after sudden movements, chest pain, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, fatigue, inability to exercise without having symptoms, confusion, and fainting.
