Boxing legend Mike Tyson seems to be a firm believer in unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. Meanwhile, Usyk along with WBC champion Tyson Fury are the two standing at the top of the prestigious heavyweight division. Both fighters had an excellent 2022, with Usyk beating Anthony Joshua for the second time, while Fury comfortably defended his title twice against Dillian Whyte and Dereck Chisora.

Moreover, it looks like the only path for them to reach the status of undisputed will be through facing each other in one of boxing’s biggest fights. Many feel that Fury would be the favorite to beat the Ukrainian pugilist due to his massive size advantage. However, ‘Iron Mike’ revealed why ‘The Cat’ will get the better of ‘The Gypsy King’.

In a recent interview with Boxing Social, ‘Iron Mike’ was confident to put his money on Usyk. He stated that Usyk’s agility in the ring and ‘awkward’ fighting style would pose problems for any fighter matched against him. “I think Usyk’s going to get everybody. Usyk is very smart and intelligent, and he’s awkward. I think Usyk is a great fight for anybody.” he said

Both Tyson and Usyk were very similar in their fighting styles. Both men were considered to be short and small for the heavyweight division. However, they both managed to defy all expectations and become champions. Now, with talks of an undisputed fight in progress, Usyk has one more obstacle before he can be crowned the undisputed king.

Fury-Usyk camps agree for an undisputed fight next year

It was recently reported that both camps have now agreed to a fight in 2023. Fury’s promoter Frank Warren even revealed that the Wembley stone was been looked at as a potential venue. However, the venue which will generate the most revenue will likely be selected with Saudi Arabia also a frontrunner.

Despite Fury taking a part-time retirement in 2022, he came back to beat Chisora and confronted Usyk, who was also present in the ring. Now, fans just might get to see the two biggest stars in boxing collide this year. However, one shouldn’t be too optimistic about fights so early given boxing’s reputation for canceling events.
