It’s been a month since the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson showdown unfolded at the Cowboys Stadium. While the eight-round special rules fight received a fair amount of criticism because of their 31-year age gap, commercially, the MVP-Netflix show proved a resounding success. Additionally, Paul also attracted attention from reigning champions such as Daniel Dubois, Artur Beterbiev, and Gervonta Davis. But just like Tyson, another veteran wants to face ‘The Problem Child’.

Yes, we are talking about Roy Jones Jr. Earlier this month, Roy Jones Jr. told TMZ, “It makes you want to go in there and at least just test Jake Paul’s chin.”

“You know he got a good punch. I know he’s capable of putting anybody out. But I don’t think Mike checked his chin at all, so I wouldn’t mind having a shot to see if I could get to his chin, to test his chin.”

Incidentally, four years ago, Jones Jr. faced ‘Iron’ Mike during an exhibition where the undercard featured a fight between Jake Paul and Nate Robinson. Events have come full circle now. ‘The Problem Child’ sits in the driver’s seat but we do not know if he will accept a fight against another veteran pugilist. Even if Paul agrees, will it be that easy for Jones Jr.? Mike Tyson believes the Olympic medalist and former world champion may need to do some groundwork.

The boxing legend joined hosts Steve Covino and Rich Davis on the inaugural episode of their show, ‘Covino & Rich’ on Fox Sports Radio. Understandably, the discussion buzzed around the Jake Paul fight. A few minutes after the show started, Steve Covino said, “Speaking of rumors, there was a rumor today that one of your buddies that you fought not too long ago, Roy Jones Jr., said that he wants to maybe test it out with Jake Paul.

Here’s the thing: Roy Jones Jr. is 55—just a couple of years younger than Tyson. So what did ‘Iron’ have to say about this potential fight?

Tyson stated, “He’s fast enough, though. Yeah, Roy, if Roy’s training, Roy could still do a lot of stuff. He has to be training, though. You have to be training.

The host couldn’t have agreed more with Tyson. However, looking at RJ’s last professional bout, it might not be a good idea for him to face Paul.

The veteran had retired in 2018 but returned in 2020 for an exhibition fight against Tyson. Fast forward to 2023, the boxer announced his professional comeback and fought ex-MMA fighter Anthony Pettis. Unfortunately for him, he lost to Pettis via majority decision (77-75, 78-74, 76-76). It was Pettis’s professional boxing debut. Regardless, Roy Jones Jr. wants to try his luck against Jake Paul.

Roy Jones Jr. is ready to take a risk!

Yes, he wants to see if Jake Paul can take a punch, but more than that, he wants to take a shot. While speaking to TMZ earlier this month, he also stated:

“I wouldn’t mind just having a shot to see; could I get to his chin to test his chin… If he takes the shot, then cool, or if he can catch me before I get to his chin, cool. But I would definitely like a shot.”

Speaking about the Jake Paul versus Mike Tyson outcome, he stated, “I don’t think Mike was really trying to take a lot of risk because I didn’t like how his legs looked either. So, of course, he knows the older we get, the tougher it is to take it. So, I don’t think he was willing to risk that. But me, nah, I gotta go see.”

Additionally, while talking to BoxingScene earlier this month, Jones Jr. stated that their vast age gap wouldn’t affect the fight. He is confident he can face Paul. “He will probably have to take me out because I’m coming to knock him out. I’m going to get him, or he’s going to get me.”

Speculations about Jake Paul’s next outing have been rampant. It will be a while before fans hear anything about who he will fight next. If a matchup against a legend like Roy Jones Jr. happens, it will certainly attract a great deal of attention.
