Did Mike Tyson do it? Did he tarnish his legacy by collecting the money for giving Jake Paul an easy win? Fans and pros have been busy debating this ever since the fight’s conclusion. It seems UFC bantamweight contender Marcus McGhee has come to ‘Iron Mike’s rescue to clear his image.
Tyson, 58, and Paul, 27, produced one of the most successful commercial fights in recent memory when they fought on November 15. But a knee guard on the former world champion’s right leg and some sequences where he failed to follow up his punches had the fans doubting the integrity of the fight. Sylvester Stallone‘s comments only strengthened those speculations, as he believed Tyson, at 50-7, had made a sacrifice for his family. But McGhee, 34, doesn’t believe that.
The UFC fighter, in a conversation with Inside Fighting, painted an alternative picture of the fight. He explained how ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ didn’t stand to gain anything. After all, he bagged a reported purse of $20 million for merely showing up.

Reasoning how there was no allure for fixing the fight, Marcus McGhee explained, “I just say, look at the person; you know what I’m saying. Like, I think I just don’t see Mike Tyson like. What does he have to gain? His money is not enough at this point, you know.”
But then why are fans and pros flooding the internet with such rumors? The Detroit native theorized that people floating the suggestions would have done it themselves, and the current fiasco was a result of such a projection. He continued, “I think people play too much into money, and maybe that’s because they selfishly would do it. I think it’s because they selfishly know in their hearts that they would throw a fight for money, you know. So, they just project that on other people.”

So, the UFC contender, who last fought on the Jones-Miocic headliner earlier this month, was clear in his thoughts—insecure fans were behind all this. What’s more? Paul, at 11-1, has himself come clean on the same.

The Cleveland native appeared on the ‘IMPAULSIVE’ podcast and pointed out how people had overlooked his power, speed, and ability. That clouded the viewers’ judgment, and Tyson appeared to be missing the punches. Paul declared, “People don’t realize my power, and my jab and my speed and my ability, and my footwork to get out of the way of those punches. So then all of a sudden he’s throwing at, literally, air.”

There were other claims too that exacerbated the situation. Such as Michael Irvin claiming the existence of a “no uppercut clause,” which Nakisa Bidarian openly blasted in his conversation with Ariel Helwani. Despite these clarifications, the conjectures remain. However, McGhee’s statements might put some water on the fire.
