Is Mike Tyson's quest for immortality a desperate attempt to reclaim past glory?

“If I win, I’ll be immortal.” Mike Tyson is clear in his head what he expects of himself in the coming fight with Jake Paul. With an already solidified legacy and a place in the history books, he wants to make an impression on the boxing world once again. For that, the American fighter is forging his body as a weapon.

Tyson, 58, will meet Paul, 27, in the center of the boxing ring on November 15 at the AT&T Arena in Arlington in a fight bounded by professional rules. To prepare for the bout, he is breaking a sweat in the gym and keeping his fans updated about his fitness and health. This keeps his fans updated, and it also serves as a reminder for ‘Problem Child’ of what is to come. So, when ‘Iron Mike’ recently uploaded a picture of him with a shredded physique on Halloween, along with a deadly message for his opponent, Milan Tyson couldn’t help but connect the two themes.

Mike Tyson, at 50-6, had written in the caption, “Homicidal,” suggesting a grim fate for Paul, at 10-1, and clarifying his intentions ahead of the fight. The post attracted many combat sports athletes and fans, who lauded his fitness levels. His daughter Milan Tyson also joined them in the comments and wrote, “Spooky asf 🖤.”

Interestingly, last year, the former heavyweight champion had dressed up as a bee on Halloween. He was paying homage to Muhammad Ali and his iconic phrase—Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee—with a playful nod. But this time, Tyson is focused on his coming fight and his ambitions to secure a win. The Brooklyn native has even specified his intent to “slaughter” him.

Mike Tyson: murder on mind

In a conversation with TalkSports, Tyson disclosed he didn’t fear the YouTuber-turned-prizefighter. He also pointed out how he wanted to catch his foe and punish him. He said, “I have to catch him and slaughter him. No [I don’t fear for him] because he has stepped into the ring.”

In addition, Tyson spelled out how Paul was in trouble because of his misplaced belief in his skills. He continued, “Jake believes his own lies sometimes. When you’re in a big fight, you have to become delusional and believe you’re somebody that you’re actually not. He’s in a lot of trouble.” But health concerns surrounding Tyson have also marred the fight. It remains to be seen how he could cope with the pace of the fight and whether his body will hold up in the later rounds.
