Mike Tyson‘s mid-air health scare seems to have put the clash with Jake Paul in a bind. The youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history has a fight scheduled at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington. He fought exhibitions in between, with the last one against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. The match on July 20 marks a comeback nearly 20 years after the living legend retired. However, right from the beginning, the matchup has met with scathing criticism from several corners, primarily on account of ‘Iron’ Mike’s age and, to some extent, his relative inactivity.

The latest development concerning Mike Tyson’s well-being may have only lent weight to the voices against the match. Some experts have now called for scrapping the fight. It should be safe to discern where Jake Paul and his team stand in the episode. ‘The Problem Child’ has reportedly assured that the fight will continue. From his end, Mike Tyson also issued a statement that everything was fine. As it appears, his daughter also joined, shedding light on where she stands on the matter.

On her Instagram story, the budding tennis player displayed her father’s message. Assuring his millions of fans, ‘Iron’ Mike had written, “Now feeling 100%, even though I don’t need to be to beat Jake Paul.” By resharing the same, Milan Tyson seems to have agreed with Mike getting back in the ring.  The 16-year-old reportedly picked up tennis in her childhood days and considers stars such as the Williams Sisters and Novak Djokovic to be her role models.

Milan’s story tagged a separate Instagram post that Mike Tyson had shared. Unsurprisingly, a myriad of responses, falling on either side of the fence, have come in as responses to the post. Earlier, it was on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles that Mike Tyson reportedly experienced nausea and dizziness. At the airport, paramedical staff rushed in to check on him. A statement from the former heavyweight champion’s representative said that he was doing well. “He became nauseous and dizzy due to an ulcer flare-up 30 minutes before landing,” the representative added.

The sheer age gap between ‘Iron’ Mike and ‘The Problem Child’ has remained a big concern for many. When he enters the ring on July 20, the former will be 58, against the latter’s 27 years. With specific rules, which include rounds lasting 2 minutes instead of the standard 3 minutes, the fight has been sanctioned as a professional bout as well. Even if you include an exhibition, Mike Tyson’s last fight occurred four years ago. He faced Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round contest on November 20, 2020. Jake Paul, on the other hand, has been through three fights since August last year.

It’s owing to this situation that many well-known names have chimed in about the upcoming bout. Let’s check out what they have said—one after the fight announcement came in, and the other after the latest mid-flight incident.

Mike Tyson vs. Jake Paul: Disapprovals On Board

Commenting on the latest incident, the former UFC middleweight champion Michael Bisping said, “I’m not going to make any jokes at Mike Tyson’s expense. You know, I could say someone’s going to die before the fight. That’s bloody, right! Mike Tyson absolute legend. But 58 years old, right? This is just a great example of why a fight like this should not be going ahead. Mike Tyson is not the same person we know.”

But much before, boxing’s own Hall of Famer, Carl Froch, had already voiced his dissent. The former super middleweight champion, it seems, couldn’t believe that a fight was going to happen between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson. In his view, “You can’t be putting a mid-20 guy in his mid-20s in against a guy that’s approaching 60 years old.”
